Our Team:

The Remote services office (RSO) team is integral to the success of the operations in being a safe and reliable producer. We aim to design and plan safe, sustainable ore extraction through technical excellence in the areas of geology, mine planning, backfill, and drill/blast, while having the ability support operations while working from anywhere (Remote office).

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mid-Range Mine Planner – Remote (Home) Office to join our Remote Services Office team with flexible home-based location, supporting Mines Technical Services for our Manitoba Operations.

Reporting directly to Superintendent Remote Service Office (RSO), the Mid-Range Planning role prepares various mid-range mining scenarios in the 3 -24 month planning window. Provides plans and designs to support Sr. Engineer and the 24-month rolling schedule; as well as the annual budget submission. This role has no specified work location (remote) and supports multiple sites within the Newfoundland and Manitoba Divisions.

Additionally, in this position you will produce mine planning packages/designs including, but not limited to
  • Provide remote technical services as required/requested by on-site MTS team to support both VB and Manitoba mining operations.
  • Technical output will align with Home Safe and VPS principles and will meet quality and timeliness expectations.
  • Sound working knowledge of mine workflows.
  • Able to perform more complex professional or technical work at an advanced level in areas such as preparation of mining proposals, mine development, drilling, blast design, sandfilling, and cost evaluations.
  • Provides 3 to 24 month mining production plans/designs and development layouts to support site strategic commitments.
  • Completes management of change (MOCs) as required for changes to mine design.
  • Site(s) Focal point for KPD (Key Performance Driver) information requests.
  • Support Base Metals Planning and Engineering 2nd Layer Technical Assurance, as required.
  • Update and maintain prints and digital drawings to reflect current mining activity status.
  • Be available to participate and provide material for both planned and unplanned Site and Remote Service Office production and safety meetings.
  • Track and update infrastructure implementation (materials handling, services upgrade, equipment implementation, etc.).
  • Provide technical support for site safety and/or efficiency initiatives.
  • Effectively interacts with colleagues & operations personnel at the site to optimize communications and efficiency.
  • Perform site visits to Thompson as required.

About You
  • A college Diploma in Mining Technician diploma.
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience is required.
  • BSc in Mining Engineering Preferred.
  • P.Eng license or ability to apply for one in Manitoba Preferred.
  • Mining processes associated with multiple methods (Bulk, C&F, PP C&F, URM).
  • Knowledge of Vale MTS North Atlantic mining standards and guidance documents.
  • Underground mine design, mining technology, and high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
  • Knowledge of engineering planning software ( Deswik) is recommended. Other software knowledge such as MineRP EPS and SAP are a plus.
  • Strategic and Business orientation, proactively acting towards the company’s success and competitiveness on a day to day basis.
  • Facilitates changes, sharing new ideas and shows interest in the ideas of others.
  • Decision Making, making effective and timely decisions, prioritizing health and safety, environment and sustainability.
