Job Description

The Safety Manager will provide a leadership role driving continuous improvement in safety and health at the company. The Safety Manager will develop and facilitate the implementation and administration of mining safety best practices and processes across the mine site and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

•Prepares technical reports, maintains safety related documentation, and performs analysis of project accident and incident data for undesired trends and recommends corrective actions.

•Conducts comprehensive assessments of safety plans, programs and work activities to identify improvement opportunities including risk assessments and safety inputs into the site risk register.

•Ensures support for management's investigation of injuries and incidents, providing training on analytical techniques to find root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

•Assists in monitoring site contractors for compliance with company and contractual Safety & Health requirements.

•Takes an active approach in ensuring the health and safety of all employees in accordance with all regulatory agencies and policies, procedures and goals of the company.

•Participates in the annual budgeting and strategic business plan processes.

•Follows and promotes the leadership principles of the company.

•Writes procedures and policies related to safety, and security.

•Responsible for Annual Refresher Training program planning, development, and delivery.

Qualifications

•Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field, preferred

•Minimum 8 years' overall supervision experience within a Mining environment preferred

•Professional mine safety/health certification (preferred Certified Mine Safety Professional [CMSP] or Certified Safety Professional [(CSP]).

•Prior knowledge and experience in industrial hygiene, emergency response, contractor management, and MSHA regulations

•Previous Emergency Management Service and /or Emergency Response Team experience preferred.

•Relevant experience in developing and administering programs to prevent losses involving people, equipment, material, and the environment

•Strong computer skills, including thorough understanding of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to create and manage Access databases is a plus.

•Strong time management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines

•Strong, positive and effective written and oral communication skills, in English, using all normal forms of business communication, including group presentation skills
