Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Project Superintendent, the primary role of the Lead Electrician is to install, wire, maintain & perform preventive maintenance and repairs to electric equipment in surface and underground areas. The incumbent will also be required to work with PLC and communication systems. This includes mobile equipment, generators, compressors, drills, small tools and miscellaneous equipment of a similar nature. The incumbent will provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced mechanics. The role will coordinate activities closely with the Mine Development team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Electrical trades certificate of competence for Industrial or Construction and Maintenance (required)
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in an underground mining environment
  • FMTM (Formation Modulaire du Québec) - All Modules
  • Permis Général d'Explosifs
  • Valid Drivers Permit
  • Ability to multi task and work safely and effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required
  • Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong organizational skills


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings
  • Must have direct experience installing and maintaining:
  • Troubleshoot and repair ventilation fans and mine pumps
  • Electric/hydraulic mining equipment
  • Phone and mine communication systems
  • PLC and other advanced or automation systems
  • High Voltage (600 V to 15,000 V) and Low Voltage Power and control systems
  • Underground sub-stations
  • Fabricate electrical panels and other necessary
  • Perform safely and timely emergency repairs to equipment
  • Must have skills to help train new employees and apprentices
  • Must be able to communicate written and verbal instructions to subordinates

Health and Safety:
  • Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Supervisor
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment


Pre-employment Requirements:
  • FMTM (Formation Modulaire du Québec) or Underground Hard Rock Mining Common Core (Ontario)
  • Permis Général d'Explosifs or able to obtain one as soon as possible
  • Drug test
  • Medical
