About this role

What will you be responsible for?
Technical Services provides global support to Newmont and its operating businesses across a range of specialized technical functions. Technical Services expertise covers all key resource industry fields, including resource modeling, reserves & resources, mine engineering, geotechnical, tailings & water, mineral processing & metallurgy, asset management, operational technology and business improvement, Information Technology, supply chain and Operational Support.
Within Technical Services, the Mining Operational Support Network's (OSN) is part of the broader Resource Evaluation & Mine Planning (REMP) team, which has global functional accountability across Resource Modeling, Mine Engineering, Long-term Planning, Geotechnical, Hydro, Tailings and Strategic Resource Development. Each function is accountable to ensure appropriate governance, Subject Matter Authority (SME) advice / direction, supplemental functional support, and overall functional health driving foundational stability, best-practice performance and enabling step-change improvements across the value chain.
The Mining OSN will have global responsibility to provide extraordinary data driven guidance and technical support to achieve better operational performance across safety, productivity, efficiency, quality and compliance to plan. The model is designed to assure, accelerate, amplify and sustain identified value opportunities created in surface and underground mine operations across all Newmont operating sites. This relies on strategy, planning, process and system standardization, proactive collaboration with sites and central functions, governance, change management, vendor relationships, personnel competency, communication and reporting. Insights and takeaways from site opportunities will be also be used globally for evaluation and rapid replication as appropriate.
The primary focus of this role is to support the overall OSN mission through thorough review and monitoring of site Surface Mine operational data and practices, effective collaboration with site and technical peers and multi-site improvement opportunity development, including standard methodology sharing. Surface Mine Operations is considered to cover all aspects of mining across the spectrum of geology, drill, blast, load, haul and ancillary equipment up to and including providing the required blend to the process facility. This role will drive and sustain improved mining safety, effectiveness, efficiency and productivity across all sites using centralized, multi-site data monitoring and reporting, through the development, deployment and sustainment of consistent and robust standards and mining application globally.
This is a manager role where the successful candidate complements deep mine site experience in all aspects of surface mine operations with expertise as a project manager, communicator, doer, people manager, technical subject matter authority, problem solver, and facilitator. The role will work closely with the Mining OSN analysts and Data & Analytics team to ensure appropriate challenge of and continual improvement to systems and processes. Additionally, it will be important to recognize and connect peripheral opportunities related to other functional REMP and TS functional streams improving use across disciplinary boundaries.
The role reports to the Senior Director Mining OSN and is required to engage effectively with a wide range of partners within Newmont - most frequently at Site Mining Manager and Site Superintendent & Supervisor levels. Engagements will also occur with Site General Manager, site Technical Services Manager and all levels of the other central functions.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

Safety and Health - We demonstrate proactive leadership in achieving a global Newmont culture of safety and health including maintaining a high focus on safety within the Mining function and actively promoting Newmont's safety standards and values during all site visits and in consideration of risks & opportunities.

Drive identification of opportunities and partner with individual sites to devise and implement solutions to improve mining performance - We develop common and consistent insights and guidance for sites on practical mine operational improvement opportunities with the support of data driven analytics. Support sites in scoping and prioritizing decisions regarding areas for operating improvements. Collaborate with sites and others in the OSN to complete improvement opportunities. Track and review progress to ensure sites meet agreed improvement targets. Ensure improvements are documented and become part of accepted workflow and Standard Operating Procedures. Provide post implementation support as required through continued monitoring of key metrics to ensure operational improvements are sustained and continually improved.

Identify multi-site improvement opportunities and drive implementation in collaboration with sites- We drive identification of practical opportunities with data driven analytics and collaborate with sites to develop and prioritize common and consistent multi-site mine operational improvement opportunities to implement. Collect and digitize findings from successful outcomes through Standards and Playbooks and drive rapid replication across sites.

Defining and overseeing creation of standard monitoring tools to enable effective and efficient identification of improvement opportunities- We collaborate with sites and Data & Analytics team to develop, improve and sustain key Mining OSN dashboards and underlying data systems, including Mine Planning/Engineering and operator scorecards.

Support OSN Senior Director on budgeting, value tracking and workflow management - We provide input on Surface Mining related Mining OSN business planning and budgeting. Provide input and assist Mining Analyst in value tracking and workflow management related to Surface Operation opportunities.

Here is what we would need to see from you!
Knowledge:
• Degree qualification in Mine Engineering or related subject area
Experience:
• 7+ years of experience in mining operations and mining technical services in large, sophisticated surface operations, including experience in mine operations leadership with multi-functional, broad based management responsibilities
• Demonstrated leadership ability to work collaboratively with sites to help them achieve production and cost targets safely and efficiently
• Deep expertise in surface mining across multiple operations and ability to work across the full value chain (e.g. geology, mine engineering, operations, safety, maintenance, technology etc.)
• Deep experience with large mining equipment application including Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi and Epiroc
• Exposure and experience with Mine Control systems
• Demonstrated experience in project management, including developing, delivering and sustaining performance improvement initiatives
• Strong technical background, including experience in planning and design of large and sophisticated surface operations coupled with knowledge of carrying out improvement projects on site;
• Strategic thinking and understanding of critical issues related to mine technical, operational and cost areas
• Experience in precious metals or copper mining desirable
• Multi-cultural work experience is desirable.

• Current Driver's License and Passport
• Spanish language experience desirable

Working Conditions and Location

Where you will be located!

The primary location for this position is Denver, however qualified candidates in proximity to one of our offices or operations are encouraged to apply. Travel to operational sites is required with this role.

The salary range offered for this role is $ 111,000 to 145,635 . The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
