Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work with clients to identify, scope, and manage integrated permitting and engineering projects in the mining industry across the mine life cycle (greenfield to closure). This person will coordinate work from team members located in multiple offices and across multiple disciplines into complete and thorough documents for consideration by regulators. This person will work frequently with federal, state, and local government officials; non-governmental organizations; regulatory staff; resource managers; other industry representatives; technical and information resource experts; and interested and concerned citizens. They will also be responsible for sustaining relationships with existing clients through successful project execution. This will help them further develop relationships with these key clients allowing them to seek opportunities to assist with other related project opportunities. This person will be expected to participate in relevant mining-related professional organizations at either state, regional, or national levels.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mining, civil or environmental engineering, geology, or related field
  • 10 years of experience directly related to mining industries and environmental review, permitting, and reclamation
  • Ability to lead, organize, and direct multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and, at times, stressful environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate in a consultative manner with project team members and clients
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in negotiation; problem-solving; attention to detail; accuracy and producing high-quality deliverables; project organization and management; fulfilling commitments on schedule and meeting deadlines; mentoring and training staff in preparing effective documents and applications; building strong working relationships; and leading and participating in multidisciplinary teams
  • Self-initiative and motivation with an emphasis on client service and meeting client needs
  • A flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules as required to meet project deadlines and/or client needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent consulting experience
  • 15 years of experience directly related to mining industries and environmental permitting
  • Experience with the following regulatory programs and permitting requirements: environmental review under NEPA and/or state programs, water rights, wetland permitting (USACE 404), and tailings disposal facilities, air (state and federal permitting including NSR/PSD), NPDES, state and federal mining permits and requirements
  • Familiarity with regulatory agency staff, resource managers, and other government officials from jurisdictions such as federal, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Arizona or other western states
  • Established relationships with mining clients and solid knowledge of the industry
  • Participation in state, regional, and national trade organizations such as NMA, SME, and/or AEMA
  • Ability to process complex or rapidly developing information to extract key issues and implications and develop appropriate strategies
  • Current MSHA training certifications


NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam (HAZWOPER) may be required; safety training will be provided.
