Regional Tax Manager

The Regional Tax Manager LATAM and APAC (Latin America and Asia Pacific) Region will oversee, support and direct taxation for Barrick Gold Corporation in the Region including developing mitigation plans to manage tax risks and resolve disputes. The Tax Manager will lead the tax team across the Region and will work with the Tax Director - Group Financial Reporting (in Corporate) to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for the Region, and with SVP Tax and Treasury to implement strategy, compliance and stability. The incumbent is an ambassador for the company in industry and government forums providing leadership to influence legislative developments and guidance. The incumbent will effectively manage, motivate and lead the Region Country tax teams and will report directly to the Region CFO with a dotted line to SVP Tax and Treasury.

Responsibilities:
  • Anticipate and keep management up to date on material Region tax legislation and reform proposals and the potential impacts for Barrick in each applicable jurisdiction.
  • Ensure in country processes are in place for the preparation and timely filing of all required Region tax returns in each applicable jurisdiction and adherence to the Barrick Group tax policy
  • Lead and develop in country competency for providing timely and appropriate tax provision information for all quarterly and annual financial reporting obligations. Review all key tax reporting from each country including quarterly tax memo and calculations.
  • Take responsibility for tax projections in the areas of budgeting, forecasting, LOM model planning, financial planning and analysis.
  • Provide leadership to the LATAM Country tax teams and coach them in their development.
  • Maintain close relationships with key Barrick site and regional leadership including country managers, CFOs and legal counsel.
  • Work closely with local site management teams to build and maintain relationships with tax authorities in each of the jurisdictions we operate.
  • Assist both the Corporate Tax Group in Toronto, the Region CFO and Country Tax Managers, PwC and legal counsel in the Region with ongoing tax compliance, tax planning, tax reporting, tax audits and budgeting/forecasting/LOM tax projections in the Region.
  • Work closely with the Toronto Treasury team on cross-function initiatives.
  • Work effectively with the Strategic Matters and Legal Departments and the Corporate Tax Department in Toronto in tax research, tax planning, tax due diligence and tax analysis on potential mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures and divestitures.
  • Support Barrick Africa and Middle East Region in relation to tax matters for Saudi Arabia and tax accounting for Zambia.


Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate degree in accounting is required.
  • A Master of Taxation degree is strongly preferred.
  • CPA/CA certification is preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience in taxation with both Big 4 public accounting and large multinational corporation tax experience and with extensive experience in tax planning, tax reporting, tax compliance and tax audits.
  • Experience in the mining, manufacturing or natural resource industries is preferred.
  • Experience/knowledge in tax research technology tools-Research and document tax issues, and questions relevant to the business.
  • Experience/knowledge with tax technology softwares
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Fluent in English language, required
  • Fluent in Spanish language, advantageous
  • Eligible to live and work in the United States, (Miami) prerequisite
This position requires international travel to visit sites and offices across the Region.
