Who we are looking for

As a key member of the Ethics and Compliance (E&C) team, you will provide legal, compliance, and investigatory advice and support to the business in relation to key Ethics and Compliance (E&C) risks, as well as maintaining the effectiveness of the E&C framework, by assessing risks and conducting assurance activities.

Your role will require you to collaborate with our people, assets, and partners to act ethically, stay in compliance with, and live by our Newcrest values - driving and enhancing the culture of compliance at Newcrest.

You will work closely with the Ethics and Compliance Group Manager and Lead in relation to the following:
  • Provide legal advice and support to site/function E&C Champions and other relevant internal stakeholders, within key E&C risk areas.
  • Consider legal/regulatory matters, current and emerging, and provide advice and support to Champions and stakeholders in key E&C risk areas and material regulatory obligations.
  • Support the Group Manager - Ethics and Compliance with the investigation and management of material and/or privileged investigations.
  • Conduct protected whistle-blower and E&C investigations alleging breaches of law, regulation, policies, standards, and controls.
  • Develop and maintain the currency of E&C Policies, Standards, and Controls including managing communication about changes and developing and providing training to E&C Champions and stakeholders.

You will have a Bachelor's or Masters in Law, with proven experience in compliance, a blue-chip in-house background.

You will be a self-starter with strong communications and interpersonal skills ready to take initiative and multitask in this dynamic, challenging yet highly rewarding position!

Additionally, you will also have:
  • Admittance to practice law in one or more Australian Jurisdictions and hold a current practicing certificate.
  • Experience managing investigations whether in a legal, regulatory, internal audit, or compliance environment in accordance with principles of procedural fairness and natural justice.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in interrogating data to provide actionable management insights
  • Excellent team working skills, with a strong work ethic and ability to effectively prioritise
  • Interest and enthusiasm to continue to develop expertise in relation to ethics and compliance matters in an increasingly regulated and changing global environment
  • Proficiency in IT systems and use of Microsoft Office Suite
