POSITION OVERVIEW

Highly skilled technical expert - Electrical that will perform on the job training to advance the skills and ability of the electrical work force while demonstrating performance of the tasks associated with the removal, repair and installation of electrical components, electrical systems analysis and diagnosis, advanced troubleshooting, and systems/process optimization at the Concentrator, Leaching Solvent Extraction & Electrowinning (L-SX-EW) and Pit Operations departments. This position is a hands-on assignment that will work side-by-side with the workforce demonstrating the work performed for the purpose of instructing and training employees to ensure knowledge transfer and the use of best practices in the electrical field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide individual mentoring and training for the electrical work force.
  • Review and update standard operating procedures and job task instructions.
  • Recommend and assist in the development of action plans to continuously improve the electrical repair process and reliability.
  • Continually reinforce best safety practices and company policy and ensure that the electrical work force knows the hazards associated with working around electrical systems.
  • Advance the skills and ability of the electrical work force by instructing and demonstrating the ability to remove, repair, replace, test, analyze, diagnose, advance troubleshoot and optimize:
  • 7,200-volt systems to include P&H Shovels and Shovel Boxes as well as Substations
  • 120/240V, 480V, 4160V, 7.2KV, 13.8KV electrical power distribution systems and equipment including transformers, substations, switch gear, motor control centers and breakers.
  • Transformers
  • Protective Relays
  • Basic Programable Logic Controllers (PLC) units
  • Reactive Power Compensation units
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's),
  • Substation Breakers
  • AC & DC Motors (Including Lubrication and Brush Change Outs)
  • Slip Contact Resistors (SCR's)
  • Bus Bars
  • Power Distribution systems from substations through to field equipment and facilities.
  • Overhead Crane electrical drive and systems.
  • Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned according to business need.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Basic AC and DC electrical Theory and Power Factor
  • Knowledge of general Motor Specifications
  • Knowledge of Komatsu /P&H Centurion programming and Flanders PPDD (Rockwell and ABB) programming.
  • Ability to use test equipment and software such as Meg Ohm Meter, Hi-Pot tester, SCR tester, Human Machine Interface (HMI), Distributed Control System (DCS) Ground tester, Data Logger, Oscilloscope.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to teach and mentor.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals, drawings, prints, and schematics for installation, trouble shooting and repair.
  • Ability to lead and complete job assignments in a timely manner.
  • Mentor and/or train other electrical department employees.
  • Ability to be trained and to operate equipment including but not limited to scissor lift, man-lifts, forklift, boom trucks, and overhead cranes.
  • Applicant must have effective written, visual, electronic, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety related instructions and procedures given in English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and set priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to think under stressful and adverse conditions.
  • Must have teamwork, problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • The physical requirements of the position are considered Heavy Work: Exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The ability to work in conditions of extreme heat, extreme cold and vibration. May require work with or near chemicals including but not limited to airborne and/or skin exposure, high noise levels, confined spaces, and heights.
  • Ability to wear respirator in conditions of fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps, and the like with agility.
  • Availability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays (shifts may be rotating, operations are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year).
  • Provide and maintain the minimum personal tools as described by the department tool list or be able to obtain them within 90 days of hire.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 5 years related experience as an Industrial Electrician and certification as a Journeymen Electrician through a state approved apprenticeship program (or)
  • 7 years related experience as an Industrial Electrician and associates degree or Trade School Certification in a related field.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • English language fluency.
  • Shovel electrical systems certificate, Komatsu
  • VFD drive training.
