Key responsibilities:

  • Work with team to conduct job risk assessments and safe work plans;
  • Report all incidents, near misses and unsafe working conditions to Supervisor;
  • Perform all duties adhering to safety and participate in the shop safety program and toolbox talks;
  • Operate 50 / 130 tonnes cranes or higher; 
  • Interpret lifting capacity tables and ensure the load is fixed and within the weight limit; Fill in lifting permits and paperwork.
  • Communicate with assigned crews to determine crane placement and items to be moved; 
  • Perform pre-operational inspection, safety checks, test lift and calculate crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting;
  • Airstrip grading/runway maintenance and ensuring the strip meets CFRI requirements for aircraft.
  • Comply with the standards and regulations that govern the operation of cranes;
  • Operate various heavy equipment (loaders, graders etc.) as trained and certified;
  • Conduct daily safety checks and inspections of the equipment before operating;
  • Monitor equipment and report any problems according to operating procedures;
  • Follow procedures and standards such as safety, environmental, and code of conduct; and
  • Other duties as outlined by the supervisor site services.

 Formal qualifications:

  • Certified Journeyman or Red Seal in Crane and Hoisting Equipment; Minimum of 10 years experience with operating mobile cranes; Minimum of 10 Years’ experience with operating heavy equipment; and Eligible for a site driver’s license Grader operator experience an asset – Grading the airstrip.  Experience in the mining industry, remote sites and open-pit mines; Experience in a cross-cultural work environment is an asset. Experience in runway maintenance Ability to safely work day and night shifts on a rotational basis; Strong communication skills both verbal and written; and Ability to work in a safety-oriented, fast-paced, cross-cultural environment.
