About the role

Reporting to the Crew Leader, this Mechanical Fitter position will play an important role in providing breakdown support to the Defect Elimination team within our Carbon Department. You will work alongside mechanical and electrical tradesmen and apprentices and have the opportunity to work on a range of different equipment including crushers, cylinders and valves.

The maintenance team's role is to support the day to day operations in a manner that focuses on safety, environment, quality and continual improvement. You will be working a day and night shift rotating roster known as "Lifestyle Roster 12" which attracts a generous shift allowance on top of your base salary.

What you will bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• A Mechanical Fitter and Turner Trade (mandatory)
• A valid driver's license
• Relevant experience in heavy industrial environment
• Experience working on hydraulics and automated machinery
• A demonstrated commitment to safety
• Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team and to autonomously manage your workload
• A commitment to continuous improvement by identifying process and cost saving initiatives
• High risk licenses for elevated work platforms and forklift is highly regarded
• Good computer skills including the use of SAP would be desirable.
• High level of mechanical diagnostic/trouble shooting skill

Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia's second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.

Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
