The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Transportation Equipment Operator to join our Transportation Team in Thompson, Manitoba

Reporting to the Supervisor of Transportation, the transportation equipment operator will operate mobile service equipment to transport materials and supplies and maintain roadways and lots. The Equipment Operator will also be required to operate the boom truck.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that’s what makes us great!

Education & Experience:
  • Education: Certified Boom Truck Hoist Operator from an accredited program
  • Education: Class 3 Drivers License with air brakes
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required


Requirements & Accountabilities:
  • Follow Vale’s Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards
  • The role may require shift work (rotating days and nights)
  • Must be obsessed with safety and risk
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work
  • Perform checks and service mobile equipment with fuel, oil coolants, air and other checks as required, report irregularities to your supervisor
  • Load and unload plant supplies, parts, equipment, materials and dangerous goods between various sites
  • Operate vehicles on private and public roads to transport equipment, dangerous goods, and people between sites
  • Operate mobile equipment to perform roadwork such as grooming, snow removal, haulage and spreading of materials to maintain rail beds, lots and roadways.
  • Rigging skills to operate boom truck, electric hoists and stabilizer jack to load and unload materials and equipment
  • Tow equipment such as portable welders, sand spreaders and compressors.
  • Operate the vacuum truck for cleanup and movement of various products throughout the plant
  • Keep vehicles and mobile equipment in clean and orderly condition, perform minor repairs such as changing tires, replace cutting edges, teeth, blades, tightening loose bolts, clean and change baghouse socks, clean out tank, pipes and cyclones as well as changing light bulbs
  • Pick up goods from suppliers and deliver to various sites and warehouse locations
  • Record and submit relevant data per the job duties
