Attractive opportunity for a civil engineering professional looking to take a step into the management of Downer's road maintenance activities across the Waikato region.The Waikato District Alliance is a joint venture between Downer and Waikato District Council and is the largest alliance of this type.The Waikato District Alliance (WDA) works closely with the community and performs the role of custodian of the network.

As the Civil Operations Engineer you will provide leadership to the Maintenance Engineers and front-line supervisory staff. As a member of the delivery team you will be responsible for target results being achieved and making the best use of available financial, human and physical resources to provide a customer focused, responsive service delivery team. You will also contribute to the short-term and mid-term planning of Maintenance operations to ensure that levels of service are met.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Managing the short to mid-term forward workload, working closely with the Asset Management team to ensure programmes are prepared and met
  • Ensuring timely completion of service request with appropriate solutions delivered
  • Undertaking best for network maintenance decisions
  • Active development and mentoring of all workforce, foremen, supervisors and managers in the delivery team
  • Liaise with civil defence in emergencies
  • Developing a zero-harm culture within the team including supply partners
  • Ensures key customer and key stakeholder relationships are enhanced and good working relationships within the WDC
  • Alliance and Downer Waikato Operational Teams are maintained and developed, actively fostering a "best for Waikato District" approach

About you:
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent in Engineering or Business preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Between 2 - 5 years' management experience in relation to maintenance activities and responsibility and accountability for staff, plant and return on investment
  • Proven track record in developing a culture that supports SQE management, encouraging and rewarding excellence
  • Able to demonstrate good understanding of maintenance processes, plant suitability, resource allocations and productivity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to influence
  • A strong track record that clearly demonstrates leadership behaviours that empower others
  • Strong planning and programming skills
  • Intermediate skills with MS Office Suite
