Myra Falls Mine is an underground mine operation located 90 km southwest of Campbell River, BC in the picturesque surroundings of Strathcona Provincial Park, which is a testament to our environmental commitment-the only underground mine operation in a provincial park in Canada. Surrounded by mountains and lakes, the trip to the mine has some of the world’s most impressive views. This is an onsite position and daily travel between the Campbell River/Courtenay area and the mine site is required. Bus transportation is provided. Relocation assistance to the Campbell River area may be available. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada. 

Overview

Reporting to the Electrical Superintendent, the Surface Electrical Supervisor plays a key role supervising and coordinating a team of maintenance professionals for the surface operations, mill and power generation plant.  You will ensure maintenance activities in your work areas are safely executed against schedules, plans and specified standards. Your primary responsibility is to provide leadership to the Mill Production and Surface teams in the operation, optimization, and improvement in the Mill and power grid. This position is responsible for executing processes a procedures that ensure the safe operation of equipment/and or systems at the mill and mill surface areas.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the maintenance and optimization site power grid  and assist scheduling the electrical maintenance of the 2000 t/day process mill.
• Maintain all operational components, layouts and drawings and keep records current and in compliance.
• Track and update required licenses for controls networks software and hardware to compliance, as well as individual company requirements such as licensing, etc.
• Assist in continuous improvement of the maintenance and electrical resources.
• Administer predictive and preventive maintenance programs for maintenance and electrical systems and equipment.
• Provide leadership and technical expertise in all surface areas pertaining to maintenance and electrical matters.
• Develop and implement process improvements to power grid operation and Mill systems.
• Assist in developing programs for reliability improvements and for cost reductions.
• Reporting to the Fixed Plant Maintenance Team on reliability, technical, and issues involving equipment and systems.
• Communicating effectively with Underground Maintenance Supervisors and Electrical Planning for effective use of resources.

Qualifications:

• Red Seal Journeyman Certification as a Construction Electrician, Industrial Electrician or Instrumentation/Control Technician or, alternatively, NERC (or equivalent) System Operator certification.
• 10 years of experience with working in an active mining and/or large-scale project development setting.
• 5 years supervisory and/or management experience.
• Extensive knowledge of power generation- diesel and hydroelectric including islanded power grid operation.
• Proficient at maintenance scheduling and execution, with some project management experience.
• SAP knowledge, familiarity.
• Experience in electrical power and control wiring, underground power distribution, transformations, PLC/HMI programming and control, etc.
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Access, etc.
• Strong understanding of all types of engineering drawings, as well as AutoCAD knowledge and experience.
• Experience in supervision/management of construction and service contractors.

• Promote awareness and comply with site standards and procedures in SHEC.
• Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals in support of the department, site and company standards.
• Demonstrates leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations, and ensuring that the Asset Management team report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives.
• Provide clear expectations on performance in SHEC through setting objectives in SHEC for employees and contractors.
• Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including yourself, at Myra Falls Mine site.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Must be able to lift loads up to 10 kg (items such as tool boxes or small boxes full of materials)
• Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license
• Must be capable of:
  • Working in an office setting 50% of the time
  • Working in a shop/plant setting 50% of the time
  • Working overtime
  • Being on stand-by or ready for call-outs
