We are looking for a Sr Project Engineer who will be acting as an expert on analyzing and solving problems without clear precedent. This is a great opportunity to lead a team of dedicated project coordinators, and external contractors in the successful development and support of projects as part of the Projects & Engineering Smelter shutdown team.

Reporting to the Sr. Project Manager and working in a collaborative community, within the Projects & Engineering Smelter shutdown team, you will be:
  • Be part of a dynamic and high performing team, executing large and complex industrial shutdowns/turnarounds
  • Manages a warehouse team and other functions within the organization's logistics department
  • Creates and administers a documented Logistics Execution Plan for the coordination of logistical operations including inventory management, warehousing, and transportation, to ensure sufficient supply of goods and products
  • Implements project plans to maximize efficiency while minimizing cost
  • Ensures logistics concepts, practices, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Interacts with functions that have a commercial impact on the complete range of activities from source, inventory control, transport, warehousing, and customer service
  • Responsible to ensure legal compliance and control to government rules and regulations and company policy
  • Regularly working with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation, and continuous improvement

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • An engineering degree or a bachelor's degree in business, systems engineering or supply chain management is preferred, although other relevant combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in leading people and executing work safely.
  • A minimum of 5 years in heavy industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and stakeholder engagement
  • Proactive and self-driven, able to handle multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and flexibility
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships and providing team coaching
  • Strong decision-making, and process management skills and a collaborative and team-oriented management style

Where you'll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the tops producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
