Globe 24-7 in partnership with Newcrest Mining, is working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their Fixed Plant Maintenance Services Workshop & Rebuilds team at their Lihir Gold Operations (LGO) in Papua New Guinea.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Technician - Mechanical for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor - Mechanical, you will be required to perform various mechanical repairs & maintenance activities common to a process plant operation and associated crushing, grinding, flotation, conveyor systems, support facilities & ancillary equipment including overhead crane maintenance and compressors to ensure optimum plant equipment availability and reliability is achieved in a safe & timely manner.

The role will have a responsibility to:
  • Perform repairs and maintenance in the field or workshop on fixed plant equipment, structures, and components of the processing facility, and write reports detailing work performed and problems found.
  • Effectively communicate day-to-day maintenance issues with the supervisor and with other sections and workgroups by providing updates of relevant issues and seeking information or input as required to define maintenance priorities and develop effective working relationships.
  • Escalate any issues, delays, or roadblocks impacting the ability to execute tasks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on plant equipment as directed.
  • Ensure workshop facilities and equipment within the area of responsibility are kept in good working order.


Essential criteria
  • A minimum level of Grade 10 education.
  • Mechanical Trade qualification or certification.
  • PNG Driver's Licence for Light Vehicle and Light Truck- Class 6/ 4.
  • 3-5 years experience in mineral processing environments including large-scale fixed assets, either through experience or in a similar operation or through progression as an NML Trainee Operator.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing welding repairs, fabrication, and maintenance on heavy fixed plant equipment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills


Desirable criteria
  • Computer proficiency in SAP & MS Office suite.


The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
