The Opportunity

We are looking for an Electrical Contractor Coordinator (Minerals) to support our mine, crushing & conveying, concentrator, and tailings areas with contractor management support. The role will work with our engineering groups, and electrical specialist technicians throughout the minerals end of our business. The successful candidate will be a part of the electrical systems asset management group of Rio Tinto Kennecott. This role will support the business by way of contractor coordination for breakdowns, engineering support, and small project management jobs.

This role is a great opportunity to join a truly global mining organization and be involved in the electrical support of mining operations. Reporting to the minerals Sr. Electrical Engineer, you will be:
  • Providing support to electrical contractor onboarding with safety datasheets and commitments.
  • Using MCI Track time allowance of contractors for time and material accountability
  • Committing to electrical safety for site area and contractor accountability.
  • Working all areas of minerals and departments to bring in contractors to assist the plants.
  • Permit training and verification for safe work
  • Safety interactions and work completion quality sign offs
  • Putting in requisitions, purchase orders and completing invoicing
  • Working with major electrical reps. - Siemens, Eaton, Flanders, Vertiv, Codale, Anixter, GE, etc.

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Electrical install experience and eye for quality assurance
  • Experience in mining, industrial, or large plant manufacturing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with computer system applications, including Word, Excel, MS Project
  • Previous leadership experience around technical/engineering teams
  • Personable and ability to communicate with different groups/leaders

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Experience with Electrical design, install, and engineering practices.
  • Broad understanding of electrical NEC codes, industrial requirements
  • Familiar to Rio Tinto contractor management protocol, and process
  • Electrical licensing and install experience
  • Skills knowledge of Avetta and MCI Track software
  • Knowledge of RTKC standards, Critical Risk Management Process, TRACK tools.

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States.
