Hatch is seeking a Dam Safety Engineerto support our Waterpower practice. This position can be based out of any Hatch USA office. The ideal candidate will be a Professional Engineer with a strong background in civil, structural, hydrological and/or geotechnical aspects of dam safety engineering and design. The selected candidate will be responsible for the review and coordination of new and remedial designs, foundation improvements, structural analyses, and hydrologic and hydraulic studies, as they relate to dam safety. This professional will also support analysis and design work for new and existing dams and water resource facilities.

This position will have the opportunity to work alongside consultants from various disciplines on exciting and challenging projects locally and around the world and will work directly with our clients, so the preferred candidate will have client and regulatory experience.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Structural Analysis and Design of Large and Small Hydro Power Projects
  • Dam Rehabilitation Related Design and Analysis
  • Stability analyses of dams and other related structures
  • Seismic analysis and design of structural steel hoist tower structures, and concrete dam structures, involving Response Spectrum and Time History Analyses
  • Design of powerhouse structures, involving turbine foundations, substructure and superstructure
  • Design of penstocks (buried penstocks, above ground penstocks and liners)
  • Design of gate structures including Vertical gates, Radial gates, Bulkheads, Stoplogs etc.
  • Structural and Seismic Analysis using STAAD Pro, SAP2000, RISA 3D or similar structural analysis software
  • Performing design calculations, analyses using software programs and documenting findings and recommendations
  • Preparation of Technical Memos, Reports and Specifications
  • Preparation of Engineering Work Procedures & Plans
  • Construction Supervision
  • Resolving overall design and project execution issues, as required
  • Leading and managing projects in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion
  • Providing mentoring, coaching, technical guidance and quality assurance to other engineers in order to ensure the technical adequacy of engineering work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skill, interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Preparation of Proposals
  • Ownership and Stamping of Technical Documents
  • Understanding of Design Engineering Codes and Technical Standards Relevant to Structural Design
  • Strong client focus and a desire to achieve results including the ability to manage multiple priorities and time lines
  • Managing the design teams of junior / intermediate structural engineers and designers, for successful completion of the project(s), while ensuring a continuous career development of staff


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Post Graduate degree in structural engineering is preferable
  • A minimum of 5 years of dam / hydro related experience
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Experience with dam safety inspections and the FERC Part 12 process
  • Experience in Structural Design and Rehabilitation of Hydropower Dams and Related Components
