Job Details

This Geotechnical Advisor role will be a hands-on role and be accountable for training and mentoring as well as the actual geotechncial responsibilities the individual would usually have as an Engineer.

In the region, the pre-exisiting geotechnical engineers do not have the necessary exposure to different types of ground conditions. In-country there is a variety of ground conditions, described as good to bad to bearable (good in some places, not so good in other places).

Therefore, the company would like a technically astute Geotechnical Engineer at a Senior/Principal level with a variety of ‘’ground-structure’’ exposure & experiences to bring this to the nationals at the site.

The company, in needing an advisor, is happy to consider rostered time on and off (FIFO) or a residential application. It's a beautiful part of the world so either could work.

Competencies, Skills and Exposure Required:

  • Degree Qualified – Geological, Engineering or related
  • Superintendent Level or higher (8+ years post grad)
  • Variety of experience in ground structure and mining methods from Sub-Level Caving, to Long Hole Open Stoping, to Block Caving.

  • Planning, Supervising and mentoring essential geotechnical activities
  • Support ongoing major feasibility studies and trade off projects with the project teams
  • Ensuring robust geotechnical risk management systems and Ground Control Management plans are maintained, improved on and implemented to manage geotechnical engineering related critical risk
  • Base Metals/Hard Rock experience
  • Dynamic. Needs to work with Mine Design team to ensure that rock mass is utilised in the mine design phase.
  • Needs to be competent in many technical aspects of geotechnical engineering. To lead the team properly and advise they will have had to have had experience in a variety of ‘’geotechnical scenarios’’ making them an expert in the more complex deposits outlined above.
  • Initiate structure, recruitment of team members and build a culture within the team. You will also be required to empower the geotechnical disciplines within the team.
  • Spanish speaking preferably
  • Delegate accordingly. Build the team, and utilise the skills you have acquired and developed to avoid getting ‘’swamped’’ with the magnitude of the sites/role.
