DUTIES:

The individual selected will teach mainly individual students at the graduate level for the purposes of furthering their theoretical, scientific, and technological knowledge in the field of mines and the environment, in particular: integrated management of mine wastes and their potential valorization, mineralogy applied to the mining environment, geochemical and environmental behaviours of mine wastes and storage sites, the treatment and prediction of mine water quality, mining geotechnique, mine site reclamation and revegetation. The individual must carry out research and be able to secure funding for individual graduate students under their direction through granting agency or other funds.

The individual selected will participate actively in the development and national and international reach of IRME and IRME UQAT-Polytechnique by the development of an innovative research program in the above-mentioned fields. The individual will be called upon to take on certain administrative tasks at IRME and will need to join the existing faculty team.

REQUIREMENTS:

·        Hold a doctorate with specialization in one or more fields related to mines and the environment, in particular applied mineralogy, environmental geochemistry, mine waste management, mine site reclamation and revegetation, or any other related field.

·        Have a well-established, or promising, university research profile, for the purpose of initiating or continuing an independent, innovative, and high-level research program.

·        Have teaching skills and the aptitudes for academic supervision of individual students at the graduate level.

·        Have the inclination and aptitude to become part of, cooperate with, discuss and work in a team, as well as the ability to get involved in IRME's growth.

·        Have an ability to fit into the IRME-URSTM organizational model, to secure research funds from external sources by way of granting agencies, and contracts for specialized service work.

·        Proficiency with spoken and written French and English: a candidate who is not proficient in French may be considered, provided that this person undertakes to acquire, within an agreed timeframe, a capacity satisfactory to work in French.

OTHER CRITERIA CONSIDERED AS ASSETS:

·         Have industrial experience, and a solid understanding of the Canadian or international mining sector.

·        Have experience in cooperative research together with industrial partners, and a solid understanding of environmental issues related to mines.

·         Have experience with inter- or multi-disciplinary research.

·         Be a member of a professional order such as the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or the Ordre des géologues du Québec.
