Reporting to the Manager of RBS Service Delivery, the Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach to the Agile Release Train (ART) in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) organization. The Release Train Engineer will be accountable for facilitating the ART events and processes and assist the teams in delivering value.

Renew Business Systems (RBS) is Teck’s enterprise resource planning platform that is fueling Teck’s digital transformation in operations at sites. For RBS, the RTE will execute small and large release trains (initiatives) that will bring RBS capabilities to Teck’s operations.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned servant leader that can effectively communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk and cost, and is passionate about delivering the highest value and relentless continuous improvement in a very dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART and Solution Train using various tools such as Backlogs, Burndown and Burnup Charts, Program and Solution Kanbans and other information radiators.
  • Manage release train budgeting, forecasting, capacity, risks and other fundamental release train management
  • Establish and communicate the calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs)
  • Facilitate PI Planning readiness by driving the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, through Pre, during and Post-PI Planning events
  • Facilitate the PI planning and management through Team PI Objectives, Program PI Objectives, and Milestones, ensuring they are published, visible, and tracked
  • Assist tracking the delivery of features and capabilities.
  • Facilitate periodic synchronization events, including the ART sync, PO Sync, and Scrum of Scrums.
  • Inform economic decision-making by facilitating feature estimation by teams, summaries by Epics and Objectives, and supporting peers and leaders’ ability to estimate and make decisions accurately
  • Manage across multiple teams: Dependencies, cross-team risks, escalations, and impediments
  • Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks
  • Encourage collaboration between teams and System and Solution Architects/Engineering
  • Work with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment.
  • Improve the flow of value through value streams by improving and assessing the practices associated Agile, lean, DevOps, and other elements of delivery
  • Understand and operate within Lean Budgets and ensure adherence to Guardrails
  • Facilitate System Demos and Solution Demos
  • Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of the ART and Solution Train and help them improve
  • Provide Executive and Leadership updates on release train performance and facilitate risk management and mitigation.


Qualifications:
  • Experience delivering agile initiatives of $5M+ in total labour
  • Experience with communicating and reporting to executive and leadership teams
  • Experience delivering technology initiatives in mining, heavy-industry, or large B2B companies
  • Hands-on experience in large-scale agile, SAFe, & Scrum/Agile environments
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) technology or heavy-industry Operations technology initiatives preferred
  • Excellent presentation, training, and coaching skills (both remote and in person)
  • Certified SAFe Agilist or equivalent
  • 8+ years experience in technology delivery organizations
  • 4+ years as Scrum Master
  • 3+ years experience as a Release Train Engineer or equivalent
  • TargetProcess, Azure DevOps, Miro or Equivalent, JIRA or Equivalent.
  • Spanish is an asset
