Orla Mining Ltd. is a TSX-listed company developing the Camino Rojo Oxide Gold Project, an advanced gold and silver open pit heap leach project located in Zacatecas State, Mexico. Orla also owns the Cerro Quema Project in Panama which includes a near-term gold production scenario. Additionally, it also owns substantial gold resources and has large concessions for exploration.

The purpose of this role is to perform, keep up to date, resource estimations based on sounds geological models for all Orla projects.

This is a global exploration role that will report directly to our Senior Vice President of Exploration and will work closely with our site exploration teams and executive team in Canada.

Responsibilities include:

  • Geological and block model estimations.
  • Geostatistical analysis.
  • 3D geological and domain modelling of all Orla mineral deposits.
  • Consolidation of the company’s resource and reserve estimates at the corporate level.
  • Validate the entire work process related to resource estimation process.
  • Monitors reconciliation of the resource model and provides input to the mine plan.
  • Ensure that the data collected by the exploration/geology team is accurate.
  • Conduct site visits periodically to ground truth observations, and to share information and learnings with the exploration and mine geology teams.
  • Oversee and contribute to mine model update requirements, mining reconciliation and near-mine exploration requirements.
  • Provide mentorship to Orla’s geology and exploration personnel.
  • Provide resource-related and technical information to produce Orla press releases
  • Act as a “qualified person” according to the standards or NI43-101 for resources and annual update.

Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering.
  • Professional member of the Association of Professional Geoscientists (APGO), mandatory.
  • Expert user of most common geological modelling, database and GIS software: Vulcan, Datamine, Micromine, Leapfrog Geo, SuperVisor, SGeMS, Whittle, QGIS, ArcGIS.
  • Strong knowledge of sectional & implicit geological modelling techniques.
  • Advanced understanding of geostatistical and resource estimation methods.
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling software and other geology programs/software.
  • Good knowledge of database management systems and QAQC principles.
  • Extensive experience with NI 43-101 technical reporting with strong knowledge of reporting regulations.
  • 5 years of experience working with large mining and exploration companies with multiple sites located in different countries, a plus.
  • Strong leadership, adaptability and organization skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate at all levels.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
