About the role

We are looking for a Sustaining Capital Commercial Lead (Business Partner), who will lead the post-award team, responsible for providing commercial support to the RTIO Sustaining Capital Delivery Teams (RTIO Supply Chain Services and Heavy Mobile Equipment/Technologydeveloping collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and through end-to-end contract management supporting the successful project delivery of the Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) sustaining capital project pipeline.

This is a great opportunity for somebody with exceptional commercial acumen as well as effective stakeholder engagement and strong negotiation skills. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate success in leadership, strategic roles and familiarity with construction agreements.

Reporting to the Senior Business Partner, Sustaining Capital and working in a fast-paced environment as a valued member of the Sustaining Capital team, you will possess:
  • Leadership skills to develop an engaged team of contract specialists and embed a people-first culture
  • A curious mindset, building an integrated team, supporting collaboration across the team, and seeking opportunities to leverage and align on commercial strategies across Rio Tinto
    Procurement categories
  • A desire to continue to support our strategic procurement transformation as we seek to partner with key MSA contractors and leverage the RTIO Sustaining Capital portfolio
  • A strong voice as we support the improvement of functional capability, the RTIO Sustaining Capital framework maturity, and seek opportunities to influence improved project outcomes and process/system efficiency, in accordance with the Rio Tinto governance requirements
  • A holistic and robust approach to safety, security, risk, change and project management across your assigned portfolio ensuring that all material risks are identified and managed

What you'll bring
  • A tertiary degree in either business or commercial discipline would be beneficial
  • A background in project procurement is desirable
  • Exceptional level of stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to create a vision, and present information and analysis to support strategies
  • Understanding of end-to-end procurement processes
  • Strong negotiation skills and demonstrated experience leading complex contract negotiations
