About the role

We are looking for a Production Engineer responsible for overseeing and support the surface mining activities and project work as assigned in order to ensure that the goals of the department are achieved in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Surface Mining Operations, located at the Lac de Gras Mine site, you will be working on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation in the interim with the potential that this change to a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation in the future, once the COVID-19 pandemic normalizes. Working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:
  • Analyzing and identifying opportunities within the business around mining, operations and maintenance;
  • Assists with the development and deployment of productivity methodology and tools, in line with the business strategy;
  • Interface with various departments on information centres and lean boards;
  • Assists in gathering project data, monthly reports for business reporting and information centres;
  • Records, monitors, updates and closes out actions arising from productivity implementations, providing progress reports to stakeholders;
  • Assists with identifying opportunities for improvement projects and supports/develops effective project scopes, shares in knowledge and lessons learned;
  • Leads associated projects and manages change (e.g. cultural shift, strategic change or on-going improvements) to ensure effectiveness and efficiency within the business;
  • Supports the productivity team as required;
  • Provides technical support to project stakeholders;
  • Develops and leverages strong working relationships with key internal and external customers in order to drive continuous improvement;
  • Identifies and investigates issues related to assigned projects;
  • Prepares and presents interpretation of findings and submit for review;
  • Analyses and reports on progress against business objectives

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Strong safety mindset;
  • Degree in mining engineering
  • Over 5 years of practical surface mining experience
  • Over 3 years' experience in Vulcan
  • Ability to use and decipher Power BI reports
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts to reach consensus and common goals;
  • Experience in project leadership, change management and cross functional team leadership;
  • Excellent oral, written and active-listening skills;
  • Knowledge of surface mine engineering practices, blasting, drilling and mine services
  • Knowledge of industry practices and safety regulations and standards
  • Knowledge of project management practices including budgeting
  • Highly effective organizational, time management and analytical skills;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team;
  • Proficiency with MS Office, skilled at developing & managing spreadsheets, graphing and ability to learn new software.

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
