Dimensions

This position will report to the Metallurgical Coordinator. This position interacts with the Metallurgical Technicians, Mill Shifters, Mill Operators, Mill Planners, Millwrights and Assayers.

Purpose

To provide metallurgical support and perform plant sampling and laboratory test work to ensure optimum metallurgical operation of the mill and perform refining duties as required. See Refiner Role Profile.

Safety & Sustainability Expectations
  • Ensure regulatory and inter-company environmental and safety procedural compliance, including compliance with the Newmont Fatality Risk Management program.
  • Wear PPE at all times while in production environment.
  • Be alert and observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements.


Essential Duties

To provide metallurgical sampling and testing support to maintain a high carbon activity and minimize soluble gold losses
  • Perform crushing, grinding, gravity, leach, carbon in pulp (CIP), elution, and electrowinning circuit sampling.
  • Perform carbon activity testing and control operating variables.
  • Perform laboratory extended leach circuit test work.
  • Provide operational metallurgical support as required.
  • Perform calibration of online stream particle size analyzer.
  • Perform refining duties as required to assist and maintain skills to back-up refiner.

To monitor and report on reagent consumption and propose means to reducing costs or improving recovery
  • Monitor grinding circuit product sizing.
  • Provide support for weekly reagent inventory as required.
  • Perform refiner job duties as required. This may require processing of gravity concentrate, cleaning of electrowinning cathodes, and refining of gold concentrate into bullion.


Training & Experience

  • Technical diploma in mineral processing, metallurgy, chemical engineering technology (three-year program), or related discipline.
  • Two to five years of testing experience in a processing plant.
  • Must be computer-literate with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must have a basic understanding of gold milling operation.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Must have a positive attitude and committed to make changes that will positively impact costs and/or gold production
  • Must be able to communicate openly and effectively with mill employees


Working Conditions

  • This position is located at Newmont's Porcupine Dome mine site near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 4x3schedule. As such, if you do not live near the area, we will require relocation.
