Cowan International is recruiting a Resettlement Specialist for an international mining company in French Africa

Main Responsibilities

• Create, manage and implement the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) compliant with local laws, IFC, OPIC standards and international good practices
• Ensure that the RAP is aligned with national, community and company concerns and objectives
• Develop and Manage the Resettlement Team and RAP consultants and contractors
• Oversee detailed assessment work including socio-economic baseline studies
• Create Compensation Plan: assess compensation and establish a payment distribution strategy
• Establish a grievance mechanism
• Budget Management

Required Experience & Competencies:

• Master degree in Social Sciences plus a resettlement related qualification
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in community relations and social development in an extractive industry in developing economies
• ​Experience in RAP project execution and expertise, in integrating socioeconomic factors into project execution planning
• Strong budget management experience
• Strategic thinking, strong leadership skills, developing people
• Fluency in French and English, written and spoken is required
