Our Red Chris mine is located on the traditional territory of the Tahltan and we encourage qualified applicants from the local communities to apply. We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.

Who we're looking for:

We are looking for an individual working remotely with occasional travel to the Vancouver office and/or site operations at Red Chris as required. Reporting to the Superintendent- Procurement, you will be responsible for the end-to-end contract life cycle. The responsibilities for the role will include:
  • Take leadership role in ensuring that all Newcrest Red Chris HSE procedures and requirements are understood by contractors and their HSE Plan aligns with the Newcrest Red Chris Safety Management Plan
  • Develop and recommend contract strategies and plans to Contract Owners/Managers, ensuring strategies consider appropriate legal, commercial, and technical approach to scope packaging, bidding, awarding, managing, and closing contracts
  • Pre-Qualification of contractors
  • Develop monthly contract management KPI's to drive accountability and recognise achievement
  • Lead RFx processes including planning, preparing, and managing of the documents and processes, analysing, and evaluating commercial proposals
  • Lead the evaluation process in coordination with Contract Owners/Managers
  • Negotiate commercial and legal terms
  • Liaises with technical, HSE, legal and other relevant stakeholders in reviewing proposals to mitigate risk exposures
  • Recommend to award approval based on safety improvement, operation continuity, cost reduction and compliance
  • Formation and negotiation of construction, maintenance and service contracts
  • Drive contractor performance to meet contractual obligations, key milestones and minimize the business exposure to commercial risks
  • Claims Management and mitigation
  • Ensure effective change management to ensure contract modifications are properly documented and approved
  • Gathering and analyzing contractor progress reporting and labour burn rates against progressed claimed
  • Attesting contractor invoices against commercial terms and actual progress
  • Resolving contract payment disputes or claims and work with contractors, contract owner and other internal stakeholders concerning contract payments and compliance
  • Handling lien waivers and statutory declarations for invoicing
  • Developing and preparing regular reports on the status of contracts. Determining the priorities, goals and objectives of work functions assigned under the contract
  • Providing guidance and direction to Contract Owners/Managers regarding relevant contract provisions.
  • Ensure contracts are closed out appropriately and in accordance with applicable legislation
  • Ensure all records are managed and retained in correct systems
  • Proactively resolve issues that arise between contractors/suppliers and project teams in a professional manner

Qualifications & Experience:

The successful candidate will be a clear communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills. Be open and honest with the ability to deliver and receive constructive feedback. You will have a minimum of 12 years full contracts life cycle experience working at site in mining, Oil & Gas or heavy industry.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • SCM certification an asset
  • Demonstrated strong contractual acumen and negotiation skills
  • Extensive construction management and construction Contract Formation/Administration experience is preferred
  • Strong work history in developing collaborative working relationships with contractors and ensuring contractual obligations are achieved
  • Good knowledge of contracting principles and construction law including indemnity and liability limits
  • High level of independent judgment and organizational ability
  • Experience in working with First Nation Partners and contractors
  • Experience with SAP and SAP Sourcing an asset
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including SharePoint
