District Overview
Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc is a full-service consulting and engineering firm serving the infrastructure and engineering markets. Our combined staff of more than 1,300 engineers and design professionals have expertise that spans all major engineering disciplines to serve transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. Backed by 130 years of construction experience, our construction-driven engineering focuses on constructability and safety in the earliest phases of projects to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery.
Our rapidly growing Power district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi-faceted division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the EPC delivery model for power facilities. We offer a variety of engineering services, including owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management and plant services.
Location
This position is based out of Houston, TX.
Responsibilities
The Lead Transmission Engineer will
• Lead and provide technical guidance over a collaborative team to understand scope, prepare deliverables, and provide project updates.
• Coordinate with internal and external team members including coordination with other disciplines.
• Provide supervision over the development of technical design packages
• Perform technical quality reviews on engineering designs and deliverables
• Mentor and supervise engineers and designers on all aspects of transmission line design including:
o Developing design criteria, reports, design verification, and clearance tables for PLS-CADD
o Building and modifying pole and tower models for PLS-CADD design
o Developing construction assembly drawings, material selection, and structure loading packages for submittal to vendors.
Developing construction specification packages that include drawings, one lines, phasing, and standard installation specifications.
• Present technical packages to clients and/or to other internal or external stakeholders
• Attend and lead external and internal meetings
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and develop new business opportunities.
• Coordinate with Project Manager to create and manage a project budget and schedule
• Support business pursuit and capture efforts.
• Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments
• Perform project field design reviews or construction observations
• Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical engineering, or related field
• Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred
• At least 6 years' experience designing and engineering transmission lines between 69kV and 765kV
• Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole and PLS-Tower
• Knowledge of MFAD, LPILE, and NESC requirements as well as NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and RUS design standards
Working Conditions
• Fast-paced office environment; must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while simultaneously manage a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively; regularly sit, stand, walk and talk and listen; occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.
• Travel in the U.S. and internationally (5-15%).
