Hatch is recruiting Associate Directors and Senior Consultants to join our Urban Solutions team who are based in Manchester and London. Your skills and experience will have an important part to play in the interesting and diverse consultancy projects we deliver. Our innovative research covers a broad range of projects and sectors including employment, industrial sectors, skills, innovation, infrastructure, energy, land and property, culture, leisure and tourism.

Urban Solutions is the economics, urban planning and real estate strategy arm of Hatch, delivering strategic economic development services to public and private clients. In the UK our Urban Solutions team works closely with our Environmental and Advisory groups, and the successful candidates will be encouraged to work on projects in these other divisions as well as Urban Solutions. Our consultants and analysts support our clients by:
  • Defining the future : We provide forward thinking about city futures and place-making, working on strategies, visions, investment and delivery plans.
  • Securing investment: We support our clients to secure investment in projects by preparing business cases and economic appraisals.
  • Assessing impact : We enable our clients understand their impacts through social value and economic impact assessments, strategies to maximise the economic and social benefits they deliver, and evidence that helps make their case.
  • Establishing what works : We identify lessons to improve performance and increase impacts through the evaluation of programmes, projects and organisations.

The Roles We are seeking Associate Directors and Senior Consultants with 4-8 years’ experience, ideally in a consultancy, project management and/or research environment. We are currently looking in particular for people with experience of developing business cases and business case appraisal, and experience in delivering project and programme evaluation. You may be a specialist in one or both of these areas, and we welcome applications from candidates who also have a broader interest in economic and social research consultancy. You will have the ability to deliver and manage consultancy projects, together with strong numeric and analytical skills. You may have a first degree and possibly a post-graduate qualification in economics, human geography, urban regeneration planning, or related subject areas including social research and public policy. Associate Directors Key responsibilities for the Associate Director role include:
  • Leading project delivery: including developing the analysis of research and data, overseeing the delivery of project outputs, leading client presentations
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis: Demonstrating a strong understanding of the analytical tools for consultancy projects and leading project teams in applying them
  • Business development and work winning: Contributing to the development of new clients and business, developing relationship[s with our clients, relationships, promoting the business
  • Innovation: Playing a leading role alongside Directors in developing the knowledge and techniques the business uses and develops, both in projects and in a general context
  • Management: Supporting the management of the business working with the leadership team.
Senior Consultants The main responsibilities of our Senior Consultants include:
  • Effective project management: including resource and time management, delegation and team building/management, client relationship management
  • Project delivery: including analysis and interpretation of research, leading production of consultancy outputs, contributing to client presentations
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis: Applying skills in at least one of the following areas including economic appraisal, business case development, including green-book techniques, project and programme evaluation
  • Business development and work winning: Contributing to the development of proposals, maintaining client relationships, contributing to marketing and business promotion activity
  • Innovation: contributing to the knowledge and techniques the business uses and develops, both in projects and in general context
