Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

About The Role

Schedule: 5/2, 4/3 – 9 hour days

Position Reports To: Senior Environmental Specialist

Position Overview

This is a fixed-term, summer employment, working with the Environmental team at Rainy River Mine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Water sampling, air quality monitoring, wildlife monitoring, reclamation/ revegetation trials and assisting in data entry as well as any other environmental and sustainability related activities, including office work.
  • Baseline monitoring as well as planning and preparation to assist in the facilitation of construction and mining activities.
  • Other related duties to support the team as required to ensure the Rainy River is a success.

Qualifications
  • The successful candidate must be a current student returning to post-secondary education program in the fall.
  • Courses in ecology, chemistry, water quality, hydrogeology, biology or similar would be an asset.
  • Pursuing post-secondary studies in environmental sciences, environmental engineering or related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Relative experience in conducting water sampling, wildlife monitoring, data analysis or reclamation is considered an asset.
  • Field work experience.
  • Physically active and fit to work in challenging terrain
  • Enthusiastic and Can-do attitude
