Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontarioand have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. About the Role

Schedule: 5/2, 4/3 – 9 hour days

Position Reports To: Senior Water Resource Engineer

Position Overview

As a member of the New Gold Rainy River Mine team, the hydrogeologist demonstrates commitment and compliance with company Health & Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility policies and procedures. The hydrogeologist also takes action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviors do not occur.

The hydrogeologist will support the Environment and other departments by leading compliance groundwater monitoring programs, groundwater data management, hydrogeological investigation, internal and regulatory groundwater reporting and groundwater modeling studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead groundwater and water quality monitoring and data management programs
  • Lead the preparation of internal and external reports to regulators
  • Perform data analysis on hydrogeological and water quality data
  • Provide technical support on hydrogeological field programs including driling of pizometres, pumping test, groundwater dewating etc.
  • Lead groundwater model development and updates using FeFlow
  • Manage environmental contractors and consulatnts
  • Document field observations or readings, and downloading data from various pieces of equipment in an outdoor setting in accordance with established procedures
  • Assist Acid Rock Drainage assemsment programs
  • Assist in river flow, water level data and surafce water sampling progarmes as needed
  • Assist with site water balance model development using GoldSim
  • Assist in developing or updating relevant Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) and Plans that support site operations requirements incorporating regulatory and license conditions as needed
  • Asisist in environmental inspections and identify areas that may be or are out of compliance with permits/regulations
  • Use knowledge of environmental procedures, techniques and regulations to complete tasks
  • Operate department equipment including snow machines, boats, ice augers, all terrain vehicles
  • Participate and assist in field operation related tasks as needed


Qualifications
  • Degree in Earth Since or Engineering, with a specilaiztion in hydrogeoloy
  • 3+ years demonstrated hydrogeology experience working in a mine or industrial site
  • Demonstrable experience with hydrogeology, groundwater modeling, groundwater data maagment
  • Handling and experience in the safe use of hand or power tools, including augers is an asset.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office suite
  • Knowledgeable user of FeFlow preferred
  • Knowledgeable user of EQuIS is an asset
  • Good understanding of mining and milling processes and their environmental effects
  • Registered or eligible to register with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO)
  • Possess valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Able to hike several kilometers on uneven ground
  • Ability and availability to work weekends and some holidays
  • Self-starter who can anticipate needs and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good communication skills, both orally and written
