This position is responsible for the reliability and the quality of the company's financial information provided to Corporate Headquarters for inclusion in the Kinross consolidated financial statements. The role covers all general accounting for IFRS and Plan Comptable Mauritanian

• Management of timely and accurate month end closing activities.
• Prepare monthly standard journal entries relating to month end closure, including sales, royalties, tax, prepayments, intercompany invoice coding, interest expenses and income, tax declarations, finance leases, departmental accruals and ad hoc manual journals.
• Timely completion and/or review of balance sheet account reconciliations. Investigate anomalies and prepare corrective accounting entries.
• Ensure all accounting judgments and entries include the proper supporting documentation as required for IFRS, PCM (statutory accounting) and tax.
• Compliance support for tax, government filings and other compliance reporting requiring financial data.
• Develop and maintain accounting processes in the JDE statutory books that are aligned to PCM and tax law.
• Provide financial guidance and support for several operating departments and act as main point of contact for these departments.
• Prepare the reports required under ESTMA (Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act) and ITIE (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative).
• Prepare or review the reports to the Mauritanian Central Bank (BCM) and General Directorate of Mines.
• Preparation of the annual Financial Statements for statutory reporting to the Mauritanian government.

• Act as a primary contact for the various financial, tax and internal audits related to financial data.
• Preparation of monthly financial statements with detailed review and analysis.
• Preparation of quarterly Corporate Reporting Pack and related disclosures.
• Prepare KARS journals and populate continuities for the cash flow statement.
• Prepare recharges to other group subsidiaries for costs incurred by Tasiast.
• Correctly account for transactions in different currencies and ledgers within the accounting system JDE. Resolve issues relating to FX differences in both statutory and group ledgers.
• Maintain reconciliation between statutory ledger and group IFRS ledger.
• Application and maintenance of financial controls under Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).
• Completion and/or review of non-routine financial analysis requests from management at site, at the regional office and the corporate headquarters.
• In cooperation with the regional office, help prepare budgets and forecasts. Provide insightful analysis of variances between actuals and budget to aid management with optimal decision making.
• Act as local champion of ERP system JDE.
• Management and evaluation of a team of national staff.
• Documentation of all local finance function's policies and procedures in compliance with Group policies and procedures. Maintain the PCM Accounting Manual.
• Ad hoc reporting and investigative accounting as required by the Finance Manager.

Functional job skills

• Minimum of 10 years' experience, preferably in mining or oil & gas sector.
• Experience of ERP accounting packages, preferably JDE.
• Advanced IT skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Technically accurate in financial accounting and rigorous documentation of backup for audit.
• Ability to solve problems, generate ideas and see issues through to closure without support.
• Experience of working in a multi-currency environment.
• Experience of managing financial control systems and processes.
• Up to date knowledge of IFRS and African accounting frameworks.
• Experience of French based taxation regulations.
• Ability to learn quickly and act on new information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from reputed university.
• Professional accounting designation would be advantageous.
