About the role
We are offering an internship opportunity our Health & Safety Environment team in Kitimat - BC at Rio Tinto Aluminium group facility.
The Intern will be responsible for the following:
- Supporting the update of the Kitimat Aluminium Smelter's multimedia waste discharge permit through a review of the smelter's environmental control systems.
- Supporting the update of the Smelter's air emission monitoring methods for SO2, NOx, and particulates.
- Participating in field monitoring and data collection activities for the Smelter's SO2 Environmental Effects Monitoring (SO2 EEM) Program.
- Supporting the smelter's environmental monitoring activities and programs.
- Third or fourth-year bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or environmental sciences.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team and independently.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Office and PowerPoint.
- Good data management skills (collection, entry and organization).
- Ability to perform basic statistical analysis.
- Basic chemistry knowledge.
- Physical fitness / able to undertake remote field environmental monitoring and data collection.
- Integrity & Leadership skills.
- Eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead.
- Driver's license
