Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.

Position Objective

Looking for a new opportunity! We have an exciting new role available for an experienced Asset Protection Operations Manager. This role will be responsible for developing and managing systems for the security of employees, assets and property of the Porgera Operations, to enable the business to meet its long and short term objectives when in operation. The Asset Protection Operations Manager will report direct to the Senior Asset Protection Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintaining effective relationships with the Royal PNG Constabulary and represent the Company in liaison with the Justice Department and Corrective Services Department.
• Ensuring effective oversight of the PJV Reserve Police Force liaison and criminal investigation unit.
• Work closely with the Community & Social Responsibility Manager in deterring and controlling illegal mining activity.
• Ensure preparedness for all levels of identified possible incident responses.
• Work closely with the OH&S Manager in the provision of APD Rescue teams to assist with high angle rescue, aviation rescue and other specialist rescue operations.
• Develop security procedures manuals and ensure the procedures are disseminated, implemented and held in accordance with the PJV Gold Security standard.
• Ensure that a security electronics service contract or a site-based capability is in place and maintained by site.
• Develop and managing systems for the efficient management of Product Security, Operations Security and Security Contracts Management
• Leading the development of the Site APD Strategic Plan whilst liaising directly with site management.
• Assisting in developing the overall security business strategy.
• Ensuring that PJV's security strategies and audit action plans are appropriately resourced on site.
• Ensure that a security electronics service contract or a site based capability is in place and maintained by site.
• Ensure that an appropriate handover of security matters, including security hardware operation and security procedures, be conducted by the site upon turnover of staff who have involvement with security functions.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements related to the security systems or security events and making this information available in a timely manner to legitimate parties
• Become actively involved in PJV's aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people. Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business.
• Developing the Annual Plan for the department and drive achievement of continuous improvement targets.
• Ensuring the development and maintenance of job procedures for all tasks performed within the department are current.

To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:

• Senior Police or Military accreditations, or post-graduate qualifications in a Security-related field are desirable, in addition to the key skills and experience required.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in security and asset protection roles, including several years' experience in leadership roles.
• Significant knowledge and experience in a mining operation in a developing country, demonstrating commitment to localisation plans and sensitivity to local customs and practices.
• Knowledge of PNG law as it relates to protection of Company people and assets.
• Experience in police and community liaison and demonstrated success at building and sustaining effective relationships.
• Proven experience in training and developing a national workforce
• Certificate IV Training and Assessment (preferable).
• Current Drivers Licence.

This position is open to Papua New Guinea Nationals and Expatriates.

Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. For PNG Nationals the roster is a fly in, fly out rotation on 21 days on, 14 days off. For anyone who resides outside of Papua New Guinea the roster is a fly in, fly out rotation on 28 days on, 14 days off. However, given the current Covid-19 situation and restrictions rosters are subject to change.
