The focus of this position is to optimize the safe, efficient extraction of ore and waste through the supervision and engagement of operational team members and contractors within the constraints of agreed capital and operating budgets, availability of assets and resources, effectiveness and flexibility of team members, and the mine plan and targets.

 

Safety, Health, Environment, and Community

  • Champion safe behavior through proper hazard recognition and risk management at all times.
  • Plans and Leads Shift “Safety Huddles” with clear, relevant, and meaningful information.
  • Comply, Coach, and Own the site’s standards and procedures in SHEC.
  • Thorough, Accurate, and Timely Reporting of all SHEC incidents, and ability to provide useful input in establishing additional controls to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Demonstrate leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and team member engagement.
  • Provide clear expectations on performance in SHEC through providing; the resources to comply with, setting clear expectations, and providing clear coaching when expectations are not met for SHEC with all team members and contractors.
  • Taking an active role to ensure that regulatory obligations and standards are understood and complied with

People and Organization

  • Ensuring ongoing effective team member engagement by setting clear performance objectives, coaching clear expectations, and team member versatility through ongoing training and performance management.
  • Providing effective support and coaching to ensure personnel are given opportunity to achieve their full potential.
  • Through progressive discipline, consistently holds team members accountable for actions and inabilities when performance expectations and objectives are not met.
  • Ensuring all team members comply with the Company Policies stated in the Nyrstar Employee Handbook.
  • Timely, Effectively, and Accurately reports team member attendance to ensure all team members receive the right compensation.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Mine Superintendent.

Operation
Ensure that mining production targets are achieved through:

  • effective supervision of Mining personnel on a shift by shift basis
  • effective communication with cross–shift Supervisors, Mine Management, Engineering, Geology and Maintenance personnel
  • effective planning, organization, and allocation of work on shift
  • continuously improving the skills/knowledge of operators to optimize mining performance
  • constantly monitoring the process performance and taking corrective action when necessary
  • a high level of responsiveness and effective communication to quickly resolve process or plant problems

Contribute to the cost–efficiency of the department/shifts through:

  • monitoring and controlling usage of stores items
  • identifying and minimizing waste
  • ensuring that  mine and equipment is operated efficiently and not subjected to abuse or damage
  • ensuring employees are kept fully informed of duties and productive during shifts
  • Constantly looking for process improvements & cost reduction opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum high school education or equivalent
  • 5 years of underground mining experience
  • Proven ability to lead & coach for Peak Performance, both Safety and Operational
  • Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to obtain Tennessee Class C Foreman’s Certificate or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain a Tennessee Blasting License
  • General understanding of MSHA Regulations, specifically Parts 56 & 57
