The Opportunity

We are looking for a Strategic Mine Planning Engineer to be a key member of to the long range mine planning team. The responsibility of this role will be to support the development of life of mine plans and strategies to maximize value of the Bingham Canyon resource and mitigate business risk. Ensure that mine plans between the major planning horizons are integrated to ensure no leak of value and that significant risks associated with achieving mine plans are communicated.

The role's main task is to support the development of mine plans across the mid to long range planning horizons and underlying assumptions for integrated mining cases and business forecasting. Develop material delivery sequences, mine fleet requirements and estimates for capital and operating cost suitable for inclusion into mid-range, life of mine plans and mining studies,.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity, you will actively work with multiple stakeholders across the value stream to facilitate best practice and develop mine planning skills in production scheduling and mine design. Supporting both the mid-range and long range planning teams, you will be responsible for:

Long range planning functions including:
  • Utilize mine planning and scheduling tools to create optimal mine designs and schedules.
  • Develop underlying assumptions for incorporation into business plans and life of mine forecasting
  • Effectively communicate the mine plans to allow management to make the best possible decisions.
  • Work with Hydrology, Geotech and Geology personnel to assure safe and optimal mine designs.
  • Communicate with management on progress of planning and design as well as special projects.
  • Work with representatives from the rest of the value chain to properly model production and to support projects outside of the mine that require inputs from the mine plan.
  • Work with the concentrator, tailings, smelters and production support to obtain design criteria, costs, performance objectives, and constraints
  • Develop mine plans and waste dump plans at the appropriate level of detail to optimize long-term objectives and meet short term commitments

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:

College/University Education: B.S. Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent

Other Qualifications:

o Requires excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.

o Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure mine plans are integrated across ore body knowledge and the business.

o Strong communication skills including preparation of technical reports and presentations to management and peers across the value stream.

o Ability to solve and communicate technical problems with practical solutions.

o Requires strong reasoning and critical thinking.

o Must demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, including MineSight and Excel. Must exhibit a strong understanding of mining principles.

o Exposure to production scheduling systems and processes (COMET, MineSight MSSO, Deswick) will be beneficial

o 3+ Years Mine planning experience in large open cut mining environments or complex poly-metallic value chains.

Training: MineSight (or equivalent mine palnning software), Excel
