New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About the Role

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Position Reports To: Health& Safety Superintendent

Position Overview
The H&S Training Coordinator sources, schedules and budgets for all health, safety, regulatory and equipment related training for all departments on site.

Key Responsibilities
  • manage, maintain and deliver the site orientation program
  • provide administrative support to field trainers, Fire Mine Rescue, Safety Advisors and Safety Systems Specialist.
  • organize training such as Fall Protection, Confined space, Mine Rescue, Accident investigation, First Aid etc.
  • develop and maintain training plans/programs
  • ensure records are kept up to date and logged in the site data base


Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Safety diploma or certificate
  • COR internal auditor certification
  • knowledge of underground mining, processing and maintenance activities
  • preference will be given to candidates holding or working towards an NHSA certification
  • 1 – 3 years of Safety related training or experience is preferable
  • Planning, organizing and budgeting experience
  • Strong Computer skills in Excel, Word, Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills
  • Data gathering and analysis experience
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment
  • Strong presentation, facilitation and coaching skills
  • Adaptable, fast paced team player with a positive attitude


Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
  • Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
  • Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements


Compensation

A competitive salary, performance bonus plan and benefits will be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
