RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading by example and proactively setting an example through reinforcing safe work practices and visibility in the workplace;
  • Proactively recommend improvements on safety policies;
  • Encourage safety awareness and reinforce safe working practices through modelling the relevant safety behavior;
  • Develop and maintain a centralized energy management system using existing data sources in accordance with ISO 50001;
  • Identify data gaps and improvements for energy consumption monitoring - e.g. type of data, how it is collected and frequencies;
  • Support the establishment of baselines and main performance indicators for the Energy Management System;
  • Support Energy Committee on establishment and review of company energy/GHG emissions targets;
  • Reporting on the performance of the Energy Management System and improvement of energy performance to top management on a monthly basis;
  • Provide required information for Annual Sustainability Reports;
  • Ensure data is accurate, repeatable, and traceable for auditing processes;
  • Analyse energy use and consumption per energy type (e.g. diesel, electrical power, etc) and operating area;
  • Ensure that early corrective action is taken if performance deviates from target;
  • Determine and prioritize opportunities for improving energy performance and reducing carbon emissions;
  • Support Business Improvement department by reviewing Energy Saving opportunities raised around the company and determining relevance of each one of them;
  • Determine the diesel/emissions reduction targets per department;
  • Continuous communication with operations team discussing effective operation and maintenance practices that can lead to a deviation of the energy performance;
  • Undertake energy audits across the business;
  • Identify and report risks to the energy targets and propose mitigating actions;
  • Propose improved technologies and techniques, and alternative energy sources such as renewables, where applicable;
  • Manage current Energy Efficiency projects portfolio and ensure their implementation in accordance to company's targets;
  • Implement action plans to continually improve energy performance;
  • Develop a reporting dashboard and generated success/gap within key energy management projects;
  • Provide technical expertise to implement project from concept stage to implementation stages;
  • Monitor results from projects;
  • Provide input into the capital and operations budgets and forecasts;
  • Ensure cost effective solutions and deliver results under the approved budget;
  • Keep up to date to energy regulations, including ISO50001;
  • Keep up to date to industry best practices;
  • Contribute to the formulation and updating of standards and policies regarding process engineering practices and controls in relation to energy efficiency and roll out to company managers.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering;
  • Post graduate qualification/MSc in Energy Efficiency, Sustainability or Renewable Energy is desired;
  • At least 5 years' experience combined professional experience in energy and/or utility management, environmental services, engineering or equivalent experience in developing and implementing energy management system and programs to promote resource efficiency and reduction in CO2 emissions;
  • Experience with structure and operation of ISO 50001;
  • Experience in mining operations and industrial processing is desired;
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English.
