We are looking for a Senior Project Accountant to join our small finance team based in our Central Park offices in Perth on a permanent full time basis. In this role you will be responsible for completion of project cost accounting activities, overseeing preparation activities performed by the offshore team and monthly deliverables for key stakeholders.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced management accountant with exposure to leading small teams within a project accounting function to support major capital projects and studies.

Reporting to the Manager Project Accounting your remit will include but not be limited to:
  • Monitor and maintain accounting systems and controls for major capital projects and studies
  • Leading a small team managing the day to day accounting and finance requirements for successful delivery of major capital projects and studies
  • Support the Manager in various Group Services Initiatives
  • Reviewing reports, reconciliations and workpapers prepared by team
  • Managing the reconciliation process between Rio Tinto accounting systems and the Project Controls management tools
  • Leading the processes for capitalisation of commissioned project assets
  • Monitoring and managing supplier payment on time metrics contributing to group targets and initiatives
  • Contribute to immediate resolution of day-to-day issues and long-term improvements in coordination with the offshore team and in alignment with the operating model
  • Learn key standard processes and controls within Rio Tinto Projects and support team members and stakeholders with troubleshooting and process knowledge
  • Monitor key operational KPIs on projects and activities your team is responsible for and use data to engage with key project stakeholders and influence outcomes
  • Work in close partnership with project stakeholders to provide advice on accounting issues and ensure expectations are met
  • Ensures appropriate controls are executed across processes
  • Coordinating team responses for internal and external audits of key Project Accounting controls
  • Continuously improving our processes with an innovative mindset by leveraging data analytics and digital solutions

What you'll bring

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following attributes:
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Finance and Accounting qualifications (CA or equivalent is preferred)
  • 6+ years of relevant accounting or cost control experience within a large global organisation
  • SAP and cost or capital accounting experience essential
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (especially excel) is essential
  • Demonstrated exposure to accounting standards and financial reporting framework
  • Good communication and reporting skills (presentation, status reports, KPI, fact based analysis)
  • Attention to detail and ability meet business critical short deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues and identify/implement effective working solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence outcomes
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse and global team to achieve outcomes through collaboration
  • Ability to adapt to change, and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • A self-starter who is not afraid to jump in the deep end and work in a dynamic environment
