The Role

We are seeking an experienced Technician - Mechanical - Conveyors for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Supervisor - Mechanical - Belts and Rubber, you will be required to perform various Conveyor splicing and repairs including mechanical repairs & maintenance activities common to a processing overland crushing and conveying system & ancillary equipment.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Ensure personnel and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
  • Complete any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor.
  • Perform Fitter tasks, repairs and maintenance in the field or workshop on fixed plant equipment, structures and components of the processing facility, and writes reports detailing work performed and problems found.
  • Effectively communicate day-to-day maintenance issues with the supervisor and with other sections and work groups by providing updates of relevant issues and seeking information or input as required to define maintenance priorities and develop effective working relationships.
  • Escalate any issues, delays or roadblocks impacting ability to execute tasks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on plant equipment as directed.
  • Ensures workshop facilities and equipment within area of responsibility are kept in good working order.

Essential criteria
  • 3-5 years post trade work experience essential in mining (preferably Gold Mining), Experience working with heavy duty conveyors, scrapers, rollers and frames, Sound knowledge of conveyor safety is essential.
  • Belt Splicing experience essential
  • Conveyor component maintenance experience essential

Desirable criteria
  • Sound knowledge Conveyor Splicing skills, Previous work experience with Conveyors and Conveyor components.
  • Recognises problems and proactively work towards resolution under the guidance of immediate supervisor.
  • Good verbal, written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution

The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
  • Obtain a PNG Class 6 driving license
