About the role:

We are currently seeking a Mining Engineering Professional - Experienced at our Twenty Mile Mine.

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services this role is responsible for preparing mine plans, making decisions and working towards the optimization of mine operations. This role will also be responsible for preparing production reporting and providing project management for projects of varying nature.

Duties will include:

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Missions and Values 
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
  • Provide decision making and leadership as project manager for various projects such as borehole drilling, pump installation, preparation plant upgrades and more.
  • Develop score of work, assisting supply chain with the bidding/contractor selection and contractor supervision through commissioning
  • Develop and execute mine planning activities, including the input and verification of records for daily, weekly, monthly, yearly production and various other reporting requirements
  • Development and maintenance of the mining timing model to be used in short/long term mining plans and budgets
  • Conduct mine survey activities to determine coal production and stockpile volume calculation. Must be able to gain the FAA Certification for unmanned aircraft flight (drone)
  • Prepare the mid-month and month end production reporting documents including production report, wash-plant report, LMS unit property report and others used in the month end reporting process
  • Analyze and work with the preparation plant to make recommendations and implementations to improve operational efficiencies/
  • Provide weekly cut maps to the development sections to provide proper direction to mine development areas
  • Examine mining methods and equipment to improve performance
  • Gain familiarity with and provide input on the operations and design of the underground and surface mine services including but not limited to: ventilation, conveyance, water supply system, compression air system
  • Manage and oversee the seal construction/installation program underground
  • Manage and monitor underground water reservoir levels per the needs of the mine and make decisions on where dewatering or pumping needs occur
  • Assist the environmental department with activities as needed including the inspection of various impoundments, measuring devices on streams, water usage and with reclamation and inspection activities as needed
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by the company

 

The lifestyle:

This position is a full time dayshift role, working on a Monday-Friday roster out of our Twenty Mile Mine.

About you:

  • Degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering program
  • PE Certification or ability to obtain a PE Certification is desirable
  • 2 years relevant professional experience required

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone
  • Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents
  • Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person
  • Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
  • Must be able to perform general laborer activities that are associated with an underground mine.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Walk long distances on uneven surfaces (escapeway and ventilation survey requirements)
  • Ability to operate or familiarity with equipment operation (at a minimum the ability to operate a diesel truck with a standard transmission on steep grades)
  • NOTE:  This is a “safety sensitive role”.  Individuals in safety sensitive roles cannot have:
  • an uncontrolled condition which is likely to cause loss of consciousness or ability to control a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
  • an uncontrolled respiratory or cardiac dysfunction likely to interfere with the ability to operate a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
  • a current clinical diagnosis of high blood pressure likely to interfere with ability to operate a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
  • a current or unregulated mental or psychiatric disorder likely to interfere with ability to drive a motor vehicle or other large machinery;
  • impaired hearing (with or without hearing aids) that would prevent the person from hearing crucial safety information or alarms;
  • impaired vision. Individuals must meet the minimum vison requirements of at least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) with or without correction and at least 70° field of vision in horizontal meridian measured.
