The National R&D Laboratory is Downer's flagship laboratory, supporting R&D and consulting to a business that builds and maintains over 33,000km of roads nationally. We pride ourselves as industry leaders for innovation, technology and sustainability evidenced by initiatives such as our Recycled Toner modified roads.

We have a couple of opportunities available for Technical Officers within our National Research and Development Laboratory (NRDL) for Downer's Road Services Division. You will support the Pavement Preservation business to deliver Business Support and R&D projects as well as undertake general laboratory duties including sampling, sample preparation, testing, training, research, calibrations, report preparation and maintenance in line with the laboratory quality system.

ABOUT YOU
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering or Materials (Chemistry background highly regarded)
  • Knowledge of materials testing with preference for specialist knowledge in one of the following areas; Bituminous Binders, Bituminous Emulsions, Polymer Technology, Asphalt Materials, Soils & Stabilisation, Pavement Preservation Materials, Product Design and Formulation
  • Demonstrable and successful experience working in a laboratory environment and quality system (preferably NATA accredited) is required
  • Experience in researching and understanding complex information to develop and implement technical solutions
  • A flair for problem solving and formulating solutions using a wide breadth of knowledge
  • A strong desire to learn our business and develop a long-term career with Downer
  • Strong safety focus - actively participate in and support Downer Zero Harm initiatives and strategies
