Redpath Mongolia LLC has an immediate opening for a Construction Supervisor to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia. The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.

Closing: February 16, 2022

Location: Oyu Tolgoi

Rotation: 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off *Due to current Covid-19 travel restrictions, the rotation is subject to change.

Shift Length: 12 hours

Job Description

The primary role of the Construction Supervisor is to plan, organize and control the underground construction activities as directed for the Construction Support Services group (CSS) on a shift-by-shift basis and ensure the allocated projects are completed on time and on budget in accordance to company standards, client requirements and safety practices. Training and mentoring the national workforce is a key deliverable.

Roles and Responsibilities:

General:
  • Co-ordinate daily work activities based on the weekly work schedule and advise management of delays and critical interactions. Ensure that the work, Planned and Unplanned, is undertaken in accordance with allocated work orders.
  • Attend the daily shift meetings with the National Supervisor to convey all CSS works to the Client (OT) Mine Co-ordinator and establish interactions and potential delays.
  • Communicate with the National Supervisors on all daily work allocations, site interactions and allocation of resources for daily tasks.


Health, Safety & Environment
  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Follow Company and Oyu Tolgoi's site health and safety standards and report any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible to ensure the proper use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Comply with Oyu Tolgoi's Critical Risk Management (CRM) requirements.
  • Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to your immediate supervisor.
  • Responsible for ensuring the National CSS workforce uses and maintains all safety equipment to the highest standard, i.e. Lanyards, safety signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.
  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet for all materials that CSS use underground.
  • Ensure key elements of the safety program (including but not limited to emergency procedures, 5 point safety system, safety huddles, formal safety meetings and pre-starts, accident imaging, planned inspections, job observations, and JHA co-ordination) are being implemented on a shift by shift basis.
  • Ensure that all lockout and tag out procedures are followed and adhered to for all isolation works.
  • Ensure that all SWP's are communicated to the CSS work force for the works we are undertaking.  Ensure all accidents and near misses are fully investigated and documented, root causes are identified, and remedies put into place.
  • Ensure employee safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations.
  • Work with the allocated CSS safety advisors on a shift by shift basis to ensure that the CSS construction teams are safety compliant and working within the site safety standards and procedures.
  • Mentor and work with the National Supervisors to ensure construction compliance to standards, procedures and design intent required in the work orders. Ensure solid understanding of requirements including shift planning, documentation and information, deliverables, and timing of construction and required materials.
  • Ensure that the shift crews have current and accurate work orders, drawings and specifications for the allocated work.
  • Actively educate the workforce on construction methodology through active supervision time in the field (minimum 80% of shift time). Ensure that the construction work force is working efficiently on all allocated works and provide mentoring to improve ways work can be continued in a safe efficient manner.
  • Complete daily shift reports to provide progress on the UG CSS projects, highlighting construction delays, scope change and training.
  • Complete work status brief document at the end of each shift to be used for handover between crews. Assist with clarifying or defining parameters and deciding on construction processes to be utilized through daily handover meetings.
  • Work with National Supervisors to provide the material coordinators with material requirements for the upcoming projects. Utilize the daily shift work status brief to request materials with realistic durations.
  • Take appropriate action as critical dates approach to ensure a smooth transition from phase to phase with the objective of completing the project within the allocated time frames.
  • Work with the National Supervisors to ensure that all training requirements are completed, all required training has been booked and personnel attend.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education/Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Work Experience/Skills:
  • Minimum 10 years Civil, Structural, Concrete, Precast Concrete and/or Rebar experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience as an Underground Construction Supervisor
  • Basic computer skills including Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Must understand underground work environment
  • Must understand responsibilities of leadership
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a multinational environment
  • Ability to manage crews of 70+ workers
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently
  • Able to work in team environment, and lead by example.
  • Willing to mentor and train others
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and work documentation
  • Basic understanding of Mine Regulations pertaining to task
  • Ability to conduct risk assessment of specific task
  • Understanding of work-related procedures and standards
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required
  • Understanding of safety standards and procedures
