About the role

We are offering an internship opportunity our Health & Safety Environment team in Kitimat - BC at Rio Tinto Aluminium group facility

The Intern will be responsible for the following:
  • Industrial hygiene exposure assessments, data entry, analysis and report writing, including:
    • Sampling for chemical, biological, physical and ergonomic hazards;
    • Working with laboratories (shipping samples, sample consultation, results review and input);
  • Laboratory preparation of sample materials (calibrating, weighing, cassette preparation)
  • Communication of sampling results to area management and affected employees
  • Hazardous material risk assessment and management
  • Confined space hazard assessments
  • Health management program review, including updating and communicating policies and training packages
  • Auditing, Legal compliance and application of corporate standards
  • Working with area management and employees to mitigate at-risk situations
  • Involvement in health-related incident investigations

Project opportunities exist within any of the aforementioned tasks. The candidate, Industrial Hygiene Team Lead, and university project supervisors will pick the most suitable project for the candidate.
Your contribution
  • At least one year completed in a master's level Industrial Hygiene program
  • Fundamental understanding of industrial hygiene principles and sampling methodologies
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team and independently
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Office and PowerPoint. Ability to perform statistical analysis is an asset
  • Integrity & Leadership skills
  • Eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead
  • Driver's license
