About the role
We are offering a 4-month Communities and External Relations internship in the Rio Tinto Closure team, based in Montreal. This role is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to develop and strengthen external relations for Rio Tinto's Closure team, in relation to communities and other external stakeholders. You will work with Asset Managers, Study Leads and Communities professionals on engagement strategy and execution for a variety of external stakeholders associated with legacy sites across Canada and the US.

Some key areas of work will include:
  • Stakeholder mapping
  • Engagement planning
  • Community and government engagement
  • Data collection and reporting

Your contribution
  • At least one year completed in a Bachelor or Master program in External Affairs, Government/Indigenous Relations, Political science or related field
  • Safety mindset
  • Leadership skills, eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead
  • Flexibility and Autonomy
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Valid driving license

Where you'll be working

Rio Tinto Closure (RTC) safely transforms Rio Tinto's end of life mining, processing and infrastructure assets by developing innovative and sustainable solutions to leave a positive closure legacy. We collaborate with all parts of Rio Tinto to focus on maximizing post operational opportunities, de-risking and reducing the scale of closure liabilities and executing existing and near term closures at optimal cost.
