Queensland Metals – Group Technical Services
Brisbane, QLD, Australia
Ref. 40981

Glencore is one of the world’s largest globally diversified natural resource companies and a major producer and marketer of more than 90 commodities. Our operations comprise around 150 mining and metallurgical sites, oil production assets, and agricultural facilities – supported by a network of more than 90 offices located in over 50 countries.

Our Queensland Metals business operates five underground mining operations (primarily open stoping and sub-level caving), processing plants, smelters and refinery, plus port and logistics operations and is a polymetallic business well placed for the future of commodities with an extensive project pipeline.

Right now, we have a unique opportunity for you as the Practice Lead - Mining with our newly formed Group Technical Services team within Glencore Queensland Metals Business based at our new Office in Brisbane

As Practice Lead – Mining, you will define and influence leading practice in the understanding and application of mining engineering and planning (Drill and Blast, Planning, Scheduling, Infrastructure Projects, Analysis and Improvement), as well as technical integration across our five underground assets, by providing technical guidance to the operations, running and supporting projects and guiding technical teams whilst sponsoring and supporting global initiatives within the greater Glencore group.

Typically your role responsibilities will include:

  • Providing Mining Engineering subject matter expertise (SME) and best practice to Queensland Metals technical, operational and management teams.
  • Participating in feasibility projects as SME lead and/or participate as IPR (Independent Peer Review) team member for Queensland Metals and Global Glencore Projects.
  • Collaborate with asset technical services and operations teams to standardise and improve technical standards, management plans and design assumptions.
  • Collaborate with asset stakeholders - mentor, coach and build the mining engineering discipline within Queensland Metals.
  • SME representative for Glencore Queensland Metals at external forums, internal and external audits and with government regulatory bodies.
  • Identify opportunities for fundamental research and leading innovation with technical integration of software systems, monitoring and optimisation for mine planning design for improved safety, reliability and confidence in planning.

You will be tertiary qualified in Mining Engineering, and have extensive experience in underground metalliferous environment and systems management, with a superior knowledge of mining planning best practices. Some prior experience in open pit mining will also be well regarded. Post graduate qualifications and current registration (or the ability to do so) with BPEQ (Board of Professional Engineers Queensland) and/or as a Chartered Engineer will be highly regarded, but not essential.

You will also be able to demonstrate strong communications with stakeholder management, technical problem solving skills and have proficiency in mining related software packages.

As a staff employee of Glencore, you are entitled to a comprehensive range of benefits aimed at attracting and retaining our top quality people. Benefits such as training, structured development (professional and personal) and recognition programs are critical to your long term success.  We also offers a competitive remuneration package with a generous incentive scheme. The business will support the successful candidate with relocation assistance to Brisbane with other residential options also available.
