Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Tailings Management, the Tailings Engineer or Engineering-in-training (E.I.T) will be responsible for providing technical support for tailings operations, civil earthworks projects associated with tailings dams and other related water management infrastructure. This work includes developing project objectives, project specifications, determining project schedules, assisting in controlling project costs, performing site inspections, advising on the delivery of technical aspects of projects, coordinating support personnel, preparing risk assessments and assisting in the administration of the project including contractor monthly claims, design changes, and project change notices.
The ideal candidate has between 0 and 5 years of proven project and construction management experience and must be eligible to be registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario or currently registered. Experience in the areas of geotechnical/tailings dam design, water management, mine operations, mine closure and site rehabilitation are definite assets.

Responsibilities:
Contributing in the project planning and set up to ensure project execution is inclusive of the complete discipline scope of work.
Preparing and monitoring tailings deposition and construction schedules.
Performing construction monitoring services under senior direction. This work includes observation and documentation of construction activities, materials sampling, coordination with testing laboratories, and observation and testing of other geotechnical construction.
Performing civil and geotechnical engineering calculations and analyses using hand and computer-based tools under senior direction.
Performing other engineering activities as directed.
Developing permit, design, and construction drawings using computer aided drafting platforms (e.g., AutoCAD or MUK3D).
Developing technical specifications for relevant structures and infrastructure.
Coordinating with contractors and conducting site meetings.
Assisting with the compilation of tender documentation and as-built reports.
Ensuring the completion of Civil and structural engineering designs and reviewing external designs.
Determining feasible engineering solutions.
Ensuring project contracts and bills of quantity meet the project requirements.

Qualifications:

B.Sc / B.Eng Civil, Geological or Environmental Engineering or equivalent;
Registered, or ability to register, with Professional Engineers of Ontario
Up to 5 years' experience in a relevant field
Very good communication skills, both verbal and written;
Good critical and conceptual thinking skills, and decision-making abilities;
Proficiency in relevant engineering software packages (though AutoCAD design and Civil 3D are preferred)
Knowledge of geosynthetics, construction document preparation, construction quality assurance, and/or surface water hydrology is a plus
Able to work unsupervised
Strong organizational/time management skills
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to handle stressful situations as it is a fast paced environment
