Chirano is located in southwestern Ghana, approximately 100 kilometres southwest of Kumasi, Ghana's second largest city. The mine is within the Bibiani gold belt and consists of 11 deposits. Open pit and underground ore are processed at the Chirano plant. The capacity of the mill is approximately 3.5 million tonnes per annum. Processing involves crushing, ball mill grinding, leaching, and CIL.

Job Description

Lead the execution of the strategy for the metallurgical team and ensure alignment with the organization's overall strategy. P rovide technical support to mill operations to ensure optimum metallurgical performance of the process plant , as well as ensuring compliance with established regulations and QAQC procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance at your work place.
  • Actively participate in the Company's Continuous Improvement Programme.
  • Identify opportunities to realize continuous improvement.
  • Lead the execution of strategies in the metallurgy team to enhance current metallurgy team practices and performance.
  • Maintain and manage agreed projects to improve the Metallurgical performance of the plant within the established operational parameters to ensure maximum metal extraction at minimal cost.
  • Provide technical metallurgical solutions to specific challenges at the Processing Plant and conduct research and development initiatives for Plant optimization
  • Monitor and evaluate metallurgical performance; and when required, conduct test/survey programs to improve mill throughput, recovery and costs.
  • Review and approve Metallurgical Accounting by ensuring correct metallurgical data are entered and balanced for daily, weekly, monthly production and forecast reports
  • Develop systems and measures that appropriately assess the metallurgy team's performance and reviews progress to ensure achievement of targets.
  • Manage the human, financial, and operational resources of the metallurgy team.
  • preparation of production forecast and monthly/weekly process reports.
  • Formulate the annual operating and capital budgets for the metallurgy team.
  • Develop explanatory models to allow for monitoring and evaluating of mill efficiencies and metallurgy performance
  • Perform technical and economic evaluations of alternatives identified from lab and plant investigations.
  • Responsible for mill metallurgy accounting including daily, monthly, and annual metal balances
  • Responsible for monitoring gold shipments, assay exchange, and refinery settlements.


Education, Experience & Skills

  • BSc. Minerals/ Metallurgical/ Chemical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years' mining experience in Gold Processing Plant; Strong background in Carbon-In-Leach Gold Processing Plant and Inline Leach Reactor.
  • Process Superintendent/Process Manager certificate of competency from the Minerals Commission.
  • Thorough understanding of metallurgical Accounting ICMC code relating to Lab Operations.
  • Detailed knowledge of all phases of gold processing including grinding and agitated leaching with cyanide, carbon absorption and regeneration, and refining
  • Good working knowledge in the usage of Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) machine for analysis.
  • Possess strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Strong computer literacy skills - Advanced Excel, MS Project, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Management and Planning and budgeting Skills, Leadership Skills, Writing and Presentation Skills, Good Communicative and Interpersonal Relations Skills.
  • Possess a valid Ghanaian drivers' License
