POSITION SUMMARY

The Paralegal position enhances attorney efficiencies by researching law, investigating facts, and preparing documents to assist the legal team. The position involves significant communication with government agency personnel, and a variety of other stakeholders. The ideal candidate for this position has a strong work ethic and exceptional problem-solving skills. The paralegal responsibilities, which may be altered or added to from time to time, are described in more detail below.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, treatises, constitutions, and applicable regulations and codes, as necessary.
  • Prepares legal documents, such as affidavits, pleadings, discovery responses, and the like for review, approval, and use by attorney staff.
  • Prepares and manages responses to document and deposition subpoenas.
  • Conducts preliminary and final review of legal documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with pertinent laws, regulations, rules, and practices.
  • Manages life cycle of business entities, including drafting corporate minutes, filing annual reports and other documents as required by corporate commission offices of various states, complex legal documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Interfaces with in-house counsel and staff, outside counsel, contractors, government agencies and business clients on legal matters or assigned projects.
  • Performs clerical duties, as requested such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, composing, and typing routine correspondence, processing legal invoices for approval and payment, and reading and routing incoming mail.
  • Organizes and maintains case/document files, ensuring proper filing and indexing of correspondence, discovery, pleadings, and the like.
  • Serves as a Notary Public.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
  • Legal processes, procedures, and terminology related to review, preparation, and processing of legal documents.
  • Relevant federal and state rules of civil procedure, filing requirements, etc.
  • Information management, classification, and retrieval systems.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and general office software.
  • Docketing familiarity preferred.
  • Confidentiality requirements
  • Records management and retention requirements for paper and electronic documents.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Paralegal Certificate
  • 3-5 years' experience as a paralegal at a law firm

OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
