Position Overview
tk Mining Technologies is seeking a Project Control Specialist to join our team of engineering and procurement projects and services.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for project controls functions related to engineering & procurement projects and services, including cost control, change management, invoicing and Invoice Approval Forms (IAFs)
- Continuous update and reporting of project progress and performance to tk Mining and Client
- Develop and maintain project status reports supporting capital projects, PTD and Services
- Align with Supervisor, Project Management or Head of Services regarding project specific strategies for cost control
- Participate in project team alignment activities, including project kickoff meetings, project reviews and other coordination meetings as required
- Setup of project cost accounts in SAP according to the cost estimate after contract award including its maintenance
- Tracking and reporting of contract costs against detailed contract budgets; prepare cost reports and schedules for project manager and management
- Review and understand project cost estimates
- Understand scope and contractual terms & conditions for a particular project and ensure alignment with client project controls requirements
- Assist with interactive planning sessions, working with project teams and disciplines and project closeouts
- Update / analyze project progress at defined intervals, collaborating with disciplines
- Inform the Supervisor, Project Management or Head of Services of any cost, drivers, and variances, as apparent
- Review engineering hours and deliverables, utilizing earned value analysis to assess progress and forecast hours and costs
- Review and analyze project changes and trends, following change management procedures. Inform project team with costs, schedule, WBS, hours detail as necessary
- Provide continuous project reporting with accurate and timely information that includes budget, commitments, forecast, variances, change management, progress, KPIs, risk & opportunity, contingency, cash flow and resource planning
- Ensure appropriate WBS coding by all project team members
- Align with Accounting regarding chart of accounts, project numbers, cost coding, cost systems interface, labor hours & rates, and other cost related issues
- Align with Procurement regarding material & contract requirements, expediting and systems interface
- Provide continuous improvement to identify cost effective methods and strategies for accomplishing project goals
- Assist in dispute resolution, as required
Basic Qualifications
- SAP experience required
- Education Economics or Business Administration
- AACEI certification(s) (CCP, EVP, PSM, etc.) preferred, but not required
- Software skills required: MS Project, MS Excel, MS Office
- Software skills preferred: SAP, EcoSys, Primavera P6, other cost databases and accounting software
- Excellent communication, reporting, and presentation skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to effectively interact with all project disciplines and stakeholders
- Able to work independently and with initiative to gather project information from all project team members and other stakeholders
- Understands importance of deadlines
- Excellent teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years’ project controls experience supporting engineering projects, with a background in both cost control
- Industry experience preferred includes Energy, Oil & Gas, Mining, Industrial, Manufacturing
- Hands-on cost controlling experience including cost engineering, cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, earned value analysis, resource planning, change management and cost reporting
