Job Title: Environmental Coordinator

Location: Chetwynd & Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia (Brule & Wolverine Mines)

Start Date: When filled

Schedule / Terms of Employment: 7 days on / 7 days off (12-hour shifts)

Please be aware no camp facilities are available.

Employee bus transportation is provided from Tumbler Ridge & Chetwynd for the Brule Site, And Tumber Ridge for Wolverine.

Primary Purpose

The primary responsibility for this position is to support the mine site operations team with the objective of meeting safety and production targets by ensuring compliance with environmental permit conditions, applicable legislation and agreements with stakeholders. This will be achieved by:
  • Conducting activities in accordance with company policies and values.
  • Oversee environmental programs site wide to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements and commitments and agreements with First Nations stakeholders.
  • Implementing and effectively communicating environmental policies and standards.
  • Providing leading practice environmental services to support our core business.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Environmental Manager with day-to-day compliance activities and tasks on overarching compliance and permitting as well as BCR.
  • The Coordinator will oversee the field programs, assist with condition and commitment compliance oversight and tracking, help manage contractors with the manager and their associated administrative tasks, review technician reports prior to government submission, perform routine management plan reviews and updates, and establish and manage document control.
  • Ensure adherence to Conuma Environmental policy, standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements;
  • Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all activities of the organization;
  • Maintain environmental awareness amongst workforce by holding meetings and actively participate in planned environmental programs and drills;
  • Coordinates the implementation of environmental monitoring programs, including data assimilation, interpretation, work plan development scheduling;
  • Contributes to monitoring program development and field site inspections to assess environmental risks and to investigate and ensure proper programs as well as waste rules and regulations;
  • Provides advice, resources and assistance to contractors in the interpretation of company environmental systems, policies and procedures; and supporting the EMS through ongoing document review and revisions as required; and
  • Facilitate liason with Government, Stakeholders and First Nations on a project specific basis.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Earth/Environmental Science, Geochemistry, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Five (5) years of experience in implementing technical environmental programs, with experience in a management role.
  • Broad-based experience with environmental aspects related to the mining industry, including but not limited to water quality, air quality, environmental effects monitoring, permitting, regulatory liaison and consultation with stakeholders and First Nations.
  • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams, including operational, engineering, and environmental staff, to meet operational objectives, develop programs to manage risks, meet corporate and stakeholder requirements and maintain compliance.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies, First Nations and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with Environmental Management Systems.

Technical Competencies and Skills

  • Experience in implementing technical environmental programs in relation to resource development, and preferably in mining.
  • Working knowledge of environmental Legislation relevant to mining in BC, including but not limited to the BC Mines Act, BC Environmental Management Act, Federal Fisheries Act, Federal Species at Risk Act, BC Wildlife Act.
  • Competency in leading practice Risk Assessment and Management approaches.
  • Competency in implementing and maintaining Environmental Management Systems.
  • Able to work independently and unsupervised.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project and process management skills.
  • Able to communicate and work well with a diverse range of groups including operational, engineering, and environmental staff.
  • Proficiency in communicating with Regulators, First Nations and other stakeholders.
  • Understanding and the ability to apply leading practice techniques and technologies related to environmental management at a mine site

  • Co-ordinates risk management and controls assurance initiatives.
  • Contribute information, data and reports when and as required.
